I owe alot on my credit cards, is there a way to have them freeze or close the account so that I can just pay off what I currently owe without getting hit with all the interest charges and late fees?

Lisa, you need to call your credit companies and request to close your account. Once they have done this, put your payment proposals and stick to the plan. They won't charge you additional interests and fees after accepting your plan.
