Welcome to the Community Very Happy If you are talking about LVNV- they are a junk debt buyer. They buy, usually old credit card debt, that credit cards have charged off, then sold to them for pennies on the dollar.

They are ugly to work with! If you can tell us some info, no personal info- what type of debt is this, what state you are in, how old the debt, etc, we can point you in the right direction.

You can also use the search button at the top of your screen and do a search- there are so many posts about them, there isn't enough room here!

I have been dealing with them for almost 2 years-not a pretty sight! Feel free to ask questions...KAren

They are one of the largest debt buyers in the country, and think of violations of the law as just a cost of doing business. Generally, they'll farm out the "debt" to one of the collection agencies, which they own, and then on to the "law firm" of Weltman and Ries in Ohio. Save all communication to and from them. You're sure to get several violations of the fdcpa with the first call.

They also have a habit of reporting inaccurate information on your credit report, such as a wrong date of last payment or date of delinquency in order to re-age, which is illegal. I would check your credit report closely with all three reporting agencies, and make sure they are reporting correctly! I have noted on my account that they are listing the last activity and delinquency dates on my credit report as 2007, when the debt was settled and PAID in 2003!

Also, I would go ahead and send them a debt validation request; however, keep in mind that they will not validate! Depending on the state you are in, you could use this to your advantage. For example, in Texas they have 30 days to validate after the receipt of your request. If they do not validate, and continue to try to collect, you can sue them for violation of Texas state law! Dig through this site and learn your rights! Also, do not ignore any summons you may get if they decide to sue.

Law Student is right- they will have violations in every call-sometimes many!

I have a file almost 4 inches thick with notes, correspondence, etc. If it is legal in your state, you can record them. They don't like it if you know your rights! I had one of them they knew I was "Debt Educated" and where it came from-their words..I just said, it was about time I knew my rights. Laughing karen

Oh yeah...they hate it big time when you learn what your rights are, and they can't bully you into doing anything! Genesee was that way....after that call when I made it clear to the lady that I KNEW my rights....haven't heard a peep from them again! They never responded to my debt validation request, and never got around to putting anything in my credit report! Education is the best weapon you can have against these JDBs!

You are right Subi- One time I told them to let me read something to them, and proceeded to read all the violations they had made, dates, times, names, etc. She got really mad and said she knew which web site I got my info from-and they were wrong Laughing ..karen
