We had the exact same experience, in addation they try to sell you a shipping upgrade to get it there in 5 to 10 days for a extra charge. After finnaly getting it canceled it still came in under 10 days after crediting our credit card!

It's packed with a lot of detailed information, backed up by facts and statistics. I would definitely recommend the book. Buy it at your local Borders or online if you don't want the hassle of dealing with their pushy sales reps. I don't know where he got the information but it's good and worth the read.
I have to agree with GARY. I found another review i think everyone should know about.
Anyone staying up late at night has probably seen an infomercial promoting one of Kevin Trudeau's latest "cures" books - weight loss cure and natural cures. I saw the infomercial for his latest one, Debt Cures, and wanted to see what it was about. This article will highlight my experience with ordering Debt Cure$.
Love him or hate him, Kevin Trudeau pushes people's buttons and gets them talking. Type in the title of one of his books and you'll see several complaints about his practices and then you'll also see some people praise his books.
So I was skeptical about this new book and wanted to offer a review.
I do not like ordering on the phone because the people on the other line have to try and sell you stuff related to the product you are purchasing because it is their job but when I ordered Debt Cures online I can imagine how bad it was for the people who have to call in.
The book sells for $29.95 and $11.95 shipping and handling. Why so much for shipping and handling? Amazon can give you free shipping for orders over $25 so why does this book cost so much to ship?
On the website, debtcures.com, it says due to higher shipping costs, higher fuel costs and inflation that they have to charge higher shipping and handling costs.
Alright fine. So after I order the book, I expect to be upsold a few other items. And I was not let down. On the website, Kevin Trudeau tried to sell me 5 additional products that if you bought would add over $200 to your order. That to me does not sound like a way to get out of debt. Not off to a good start.
Two weeks later the book arrives in a small box just like in one of the boxes you get from Amazon when you order some books.
The infomercial states that you'll learn stuff that has never been revealed before anywhere else about the credit and lending industry. After just reading the first 2 chapters I would have to disagree. Most of the stuff he wrote about is available for free online.
One of the main points of the first two chapters is that the banks, credit card companies, and the federal government are all in cahoots to try and keep you and me in debt so we can keep making them rich. This part is true. The credit card companies love it when you just make the minimum payments on your bills. They do not want you to get out of debt. They especially like it when you miss your payment or go over the limit so they can assess a hefty fee and even raise your interest rate.
This is all true and can be read about on many credit related websites.
He talks about the practices of the banks and credit card companies and how the government lets them get away with charging high interest rates and fees because they contribute money to their campaigns. Reading these chapter will get you mad if you are not already at how much debt you have and how the lenders try and squeeze more money out of you.
Chapters 4 and 5 are where Kevin Trudeau starts to deliver on his Debt Cures promises. He offers actionable points on how to eliminate your debt, negotiate your debt down and reduce your interest rates. Some of this is also available online elsewhere but in the folksy way that Kevin talks, he makes it easy to understand and easy to take action by providing examples of what to do and say.
If you have a few thousand dollars and debt and use one of these methods to lower the amount you have to pay then the cost of the book is already paid for even if you are overcharged for shipping and handling.
In a follow up article, I will cover the remaining chapters of the book and point out the remaining good and not so good points.
Debt Cures has a passing vote so far even though Mr. Trudeau has a less than stellar reputation. But do no let that get in the way of getting help with your debt problems. This book and others like it can provide practical solutions to lowering what you owe and getting you out of the many burdens debt can put you in.

i hope kevin goes to jail for a long long time. and then someone tell him that for only $19.95 he can find out how to get out of jail, and all the other secrets that inmates want to know about, that the gov. does not want him to know. then sit back and watch him serve the rest of his sentence, reading the book the entire time. realizing that there is no such secret....dumba*$. such a phony.

The letters (in the book)that you can send to the aggressive creditors are very helpful. People please don't judge before you read. It's worth the read, and especially for my teenager who will get a heads up about our corrupt Credit Card Industry. Thumbs UP !!!

The books have good information but if you order them AGREE TO NOTHING!!! The operator will try to sell you additional services. AGREE TO NOTHING. They are all scams. I was promised 10-$10 gas cards. I have received nothing! I have received 5 charges from 2 different companies WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION! They companies claim that I signed up for something when I ordered these books. If you can, get the books from a store. Again, AGREE TO NOTHING no matter how good the deals sound. THEY ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, THEY ARE A SCAM!!!

This company Cure My Debts which is also American Debts LLC is a fraudulent company. I only spoke to them over the phone and asked them to send me some paperwork so I could review their conditions. Then, all the sudden just by me asking them for information I had entered into a "verbal contract" with them. Now I am not a stupid person. I did not just misunderstand and I am not easily coerced. These are definately people paid to sit there and trained to steal people's money. My advice..and this is what I did. I stopped paying my credit card that I was going to sign up with debt management. Of course the phone calls start you just tell the creditor you are going to wait and see if they can settle. Credit card companies have about 4 months they can wait and if you tell them you are interested in settling your debt after 4 months they will call and they settled my debt for like 25% of what I owed. It was a better deal than even offered to me by Cure My Debt. Just so you know even tho all my credit cards are paid off...these scoundrels from Cure My Debt are still illegally taking money out of my account with no authorization whatsoever. BEWARE!! and just do it yourself.

My mom passed this book along to me so I wasn't suckered into paying anything for it. I've been reading through the book for about a week now, and no I do not have poor comprehension, I just have a life and do not have time to read a book in one sitting.

The first half of the book seems to be pretty repetitive and you definitely get the "hint" that he hates the government. I have to say there are a couple things in the book that I was unaware of but most of it I did already know, but only because I do try to read up on credit scoring and such when I have free time.

Overall, I'd say this book is worth buying for the average person who doesn't know much about your options of getting out of debt. Yes, there are people out there like that and just because no one has ever educated them on the matter it does not mean they should be ashamed to want to learn it now. A lot of people have said it is common information that can be read on the internet. Yes, you can find just about anything you want to know on the internet, but most of us don't have time to do a ton of research. This book puts everything in simple everyday terms for the average person to be able to follow.

Maybe he is a scam artist, I don't know, but I think it's a decent book.

If you want some great financial advice find a copy of The Richest Man in Babylon, it's been in continuous print since the 1920's and is still full of solid advice, including how to get out of debt. And please stop worrying about your credit score, in fact that should be the very last thing on anyone's mind. To even have a credit score number you must be in debt, the greater the debt and the longer you are in it, yes your number will rise, so what, you are paying through the nose for it. And what do you really have to show for all that debt? A house, garage, and rented storage unit full of things you never use? Make a list of all the things you actually use over a months time, most will be the things you use every day, then make a list of all the stuff you have that you didn't use even once.

I ordered this book. I was very nervous about the order. When it arrived I sent it back via refusal. They keep your money and thier books. $157.00 is how much richer they are for everyone dumb enough to order from them. They also do not have the best reputation in the world.

Sincerely and Beware,

Not happy. Oh by the way they accuse the Post Office of throwing them away, rather than returning them. Postage was over $20.00.

The info provided is common sense and when you try and cancel the revolving 14.95 a month by phone they have technical difficulties. A person must call and get customer service. So DON'T get it. If you want to read the book go to the library, its free!!
