I am a young mother currently going thru a divorce. I was fired from my job 2 weeks after my husband and I separated and was out of work for 8 weeks. I'm now so far behind on my bills I know there is no way I can get caught up on my own. I want to do debt consolidation / settlement, but there are so many sites and promises and choices to consider that I have NO IDEA where to start. How do you know when you're dealing with a GOOD company? Any information you guys can offer me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.

I also have a PDL in addition to all the CC debt I have. Will consol / settlement companies allow that to be added into the total debt? It's thru an online company.

Oh, almost forgot - I just registered, too. : ) This place looks like it will be a HUGE help to me!

First, I'm sorry about what you've had to go through. I'm 32, I have 2 daughters and I went through a divorce 3 years ago. It's really tough. There is alot of good information on this site about debt consolidation companies. One thing I would do with any company you ever deal with is look them up with the better business bureau online. Debt consolidation would be a good decision for you right now because they will look at your financial situation and debt obligations and work out a plan that will help you. Send me a pm and I'll give you more information about some companies.

A good debt consolidation/settlement company will have positive feedbacks in the state AG's office. People find the AG's office to be the closest contact when they undergo problems with their companies. Do some online research in the FTC website too. I find the article below very informative. It will give you a good start.

hdurham-First of all,if you register with this website, someone will contact you for free credit counseling. They will discuss different options with you after they get info from you in regards to your debt. Consolidation can be of great help by lowering your interest and having one monthly paymnet instead of several. Welcome Heather Very Happy As you stated, there are many benefits here. You can become educated in debt practices,as well learn how others are becoming debt free. Good Luck to all of you-if you have any questions, feel free to ask!...Karen
