|
|
I want to get out of debt and I went to CCCS and signed up. But now I am worried that this will effect my husbands credit. I did not put him on any of the information. He and I do not have any joint accounts. The only things that have both our names are the marriage certificates and the deed to the house. He has his money and I have mine. I am just worried that this will have an effect on him. Please help!

Someone else might have more information ~ I think it might depend on what state you live in and how property laws work there. I've heard that when a couple is married that the financial actions of one will have an impact on the credit history of another...even though the accounts are not held in your name specifically.

Community Propery States:
Arizona
California
Idaho
Louisiana
Nevada
New Mexico
Texas
Washington
Wisconsin
And Alaska (voluntary, have to sign up to be community property)
If you are in any state other than above, you have nothing to worry about.

If all of your credit accounts are individual, then the only involvement he would have is if he happens to answer the phone when they call.
Seriously though- if he's not on your accounts, then they shouldn't even be on his credit report. As a test, you can go to annualcreditreport.com (the site is the real deal and not for profit) and pull his credit. Then you can see for sure that your accounts are not affecting his credit report.
