I looked into sigining up with Fairhaven Law Group after receiving an advertisement in the mail recently. I have over $57k in credit card debt. They were going to take over $14k in fees, which seemed a bit excessive compared with other places. They are supposedly lawyer based, which is what I wanted, but I decided to go somewhere else.

I enrolled with Fairhaven Law Group and so far have seen nothing. They are taking money but my creditors are calling non-stop. Should I continue or cancel my contract and take the loss and find someone more reputable. I did not realize they were not listed witht the BBB when I signed with them.

i don't think they can do anything if the debts are still with the original creditor. if they are with a third party collection agency, then they should be getting the calls to stop through their power of attorney. when i started my debt settlement program i just changed my phone number to avoid all of the calls.

My cousin did that-change phone number to avoid calls. What happened was my mother got a call looking for her. My 2 sisters & I got a call looking for her as well.
Guest, have you contacted your creditors to explain the situation with what's going on? They could be sympathetic. Also apply for a consultation here or give the phone line a call. Lots of great ways to get help here!! __________________

if you are still getting calls, then you should probably contact Fairhaven and see what they have to say. did they change your address and phone to theirs? but like the above poster said, this will only work with third party collectors from what i have been told.

I think it sounds to good to be true that they can make me debt free in 36 months. The man told me that I should advoid talking to the creditors after I sign with them because it will break my contract. Also I asked if this would effect my credit(not paying and avoiding)he told me yes but it will be fine in the end. I asked if I could have that in writing and if it was in the contract and he avoided my question. I'm very concerned and am afraid to sign any thing.

Before you decide to go with any company- check them out completely! Ask about fees, hidden fees, and any other question you may have. Also, check them out not only with the BBB, but others who have used them through completion. You can also search here, using the search box at the top, and see what others have said about them..karen

when you do a debt settlement program you have to stop paying the creditors, which will lead to your credit score going down. if it is already low, then the change probably won't be too significant, but if you have a good score, then it could be drastic. but, as you settle with the creditors the score should start going up as they report the debt being paid. at least you won't have a huge amount of debt showing on your report.
i don't think any debt settlement company can or should guarantee anything as far as end results go. the results of settlement vary wildly. |

Fairhaven Law Group
I received a flyer in the mail and was thinking about switching to Fairhaven Law Group after seeing how low their payments can be stretched out. I am currently enrolled in American Consumer Credit Counsiling and am very happy but my payment is high due to the fact that it has to be repayed by 3 years (32K debt= 709 per month with $14 service fee). I don't feel FLG is trustworthy after reading these posts. I'm going to stay where I'm at.

Fairhaven are lawyers, they advise you not to pay your bills and you will get harrassed by the creditors. In the end when you are being sued they represent you and negotiate a lower settlement. You have to save the money and weather the storm of collectors. They are NOT debt consolidation or counseling service. They do take 3700.00 up front and a monthly fee, but if you stick with the program they will negotiate a settlement around .40 cents on the dollar with your creditors. If you go with them do not make any deals with the creditors yourself, the lawyers will handle everything, don't even talk to the creditors. I have done tons of research and am going with fairhaven. They work for the consumer, not the creditors like debt free and places like that. Good luck.

I don't really know what to think. The people that have problems with Fairhaven are having the problems that Fairhaven told me that I would have in the begining. They told me that up front. I have not gone with them yet but am thinking about it.

Bossy is absolutely right...prior to signing up with any firm do a proper research on them....ask about their certifications, fees and guarantee services. Its always better to know whether they have any complaints lodge against them or not.Its better to be aware because there are many fraudulent companies who run their business with the sole intention of SNATCHING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.
