Actually that is how debt settlement works , well mostly. If you can afford to pay your creditors than you should consider a credit counseling program , NOT debt settlement. Debt settlement is a hardship program for people who are overextended and already behind on their bills or are about to. Some settlement company's don`t notify the creditors until they go to collections and some notify the original creditors as soon as you enroll. Just because Fairhaven has a bad rep doesn`t mean all debt settlements company's are bad. Just shop around and find a company that has a good track record with the BBB. If you can afford your bills and are maybe just paying high aprs than you should consider going with a Credit Counseling company.

HI there,
I too am thinking of going with Fairhaven for debt settlement but have also looked into Debtmerica. They seem reputable, also based local(Santa Ana) and were featured on MSNBC. Any thoughts?

I talked to them yesterday and they came up with an affordable proposal to my very bad situation. So I decided to google Fairhaven Law Group and came up with this thread so I wouldn't end up compounding my problems. Now I'm bummed out after reading this thread and I need to do more research and come up with a better company.

I always suggest that when shopping with a settlement company make sure they have a good reputation with the BBB and be members of either TASC or USOBA.I am not endorsing any company but just pointing you in the right direction when shopping around. Here are a few companies that have proven good track records and are all members of the BBB.
New Beginnings debt settlement LLC , Superior debt relief , Century Negotiations .
These are just a few of the many good companies out there . I suggest you shop around and compare and make your own decision. I hope this helps.

all you have to do by law to get the calls stopped is to put it in writing to the debtor. It is the LAW under the Fair Credit Collections Act. Take the time to do it. I have just gotten my mother's debt into FairHaven's program...and so far so good. They supply you with all the information you need, and if you do your part, they will do theirs. :P

You are a fool (more uneducated) for trusting companies just for the fact they are BBB members. A BBB member company means absolutely nothing! BBB is likely to be the biggest scam in U.S. history. What consumers don’t understand that BBB memberships are simply acquired by paying MONEY… nothing else. It is also a fact that many of the BBB branches protect their paying member’s crappy business by maintaining them a “satisfactory” record for in trade of MONEY. Additionally, contrary to popular belief, the BBB is NOT a government run agency. The BBB is a business like any other and have NO POWER to do anything to another business, except of course to give a company a “satisfactory” rating for MONEY. Put simply, if you solely choose a company based on a BBB membership, you may be choosing a very bad business. Beware of companies that advertise “We’re BBB members” and stress to make it a point. You are fair warned. Check out rip off report dot com if you want evidence. That’s a good research starting point.

I can tell you that I am one of the attorneys working part time with Fairhaven law group. Actually, I am both a CPA and an attornaey. On a recent case for them they charged the client a normal fee for a chapter 7 bankruptcy. Because the debtors had not reported their tip income properly on their income tax returns the case was transferred from the chapter 7 trustee to the chapter 13 trustee and then back to the 7 trustee again. Even though there were 3 meetings with creditors instead of one, Fairhaven never asked the client for more money instead they paid for my extra time themselves. To me this indicates a highly reputable group

I keep getting these things in the mail... I have major CC debt and checked many of the these companies out. At the end of the day I worked it out myself with the Credit Card Companies and don't have to pay someone to do so... All cc calls have stopped but now just have to pay it back, but my credit score stays the same.

I am thinking about going to Fairhaven as well. I talked to them on the phone and they seemed really good. But after reading all of these comments, I don't know what to do.
I have a lot of CC debt and I do not want to file bankruptcy. Does anyone currently work with a debt service out there that you can recommend besides Fairhaven?

I would recommend almost any company besides Fairhaven. Take your pick New Beginnings debt settlement LLC , Oak View Law , Roll Law Office , Superior debt relief , Century Negotiations . Any of these companies are a million times better than Fairhaven.

Guest, you mention Fairhaven is the cheapest by far. They should be the cheapest from what I've read about their company.

Why take a chance with a company with bad reviews and bbb ratings.
