they have sent me a collections for an account that was closed a long time ago. the account had a 0 balance and i closed it out myself. does any one have any experience with false claims like this.

You should send debt validation letter in writing to the collection agency in writing. On the other hand, if the item has been reported on your credit report, then you should dispute the account status with the credit bureaus. The credit bureaus will remove the item from your report after investigation.
