My payment was not taken out on 7/07, I called I was told that they were in the hands of recievership, I chose to opt out of the program on 07/17, I was told that everything was frozen & he? guaranteed me that the electronic payment from my account was cancelled. I wrote checks to the creditors on 07/21. On July20, Allegro had in the meantime taken an unauthorized amount from my bank account, this caused overdrafts with charges, etc. I called & spoke to Cathy Ryan at Allegro, she apologized & said that if I sent my bank statement, she would take care of it. I sent one fax & 2 certified letters (both rec'vd) on July 27th, As of 8/03 I called & was told they had rcvd no letters, there was nothing they could do. I called the company that signed me up, I am on a fixed income, & right now I am &538.00 down, not counting the $408 they kept for signing up, & $413 a month, after 5 months they did not sign up one of my creditors which increased that balance from $3100 to $3500, I have called the advertising station to complain I would hope that all of you do as well.
What a hard lesson to learn so late in life. I thought I could bypass all of the dishonest companies, not so! the are still here.

What part of ANDERSON NELMS IS BEING SUED BY THE STATE OF ALABAMA & SEVERAL OTHER STATES.....do some of you not get. Contact the receiver....appointed by the State of Alabama Attorney General and the Securities Commission of Alabama...... Louis Colley. No more money should be coming out of your accounts going to Allegro Law. If it is, it should be stopped. But, be assured, Anderson Nelms is NOT getting a dime from this point on. The accounts were frozen on July 1 & Allegro Law as well as his Law Firm Anderson Nelms and Associates, as well as a third firm Allegro Financial Services, were SHUT DOWN AND ALL FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS WERE FROZEN!!!! Allegro Law is out of business as of July 1. Attorney General Cuomo out of New York got all this investigation started on May 7. TV's cannot help you. The Receiver may be able to. They are trying to get one innocent company of employees paid first. He had just bought into a franchise and had teams in two cities working this franchise. One of Anderson Nelms new companies....nothing to do with debt consolidation....had employees who worked for nearly a month that have not been paid. They are to be paid then the 39 Million worth of fraud and the 15,000 who have been duped by Allegro Law will have to be gone over with a fine tooth comb. GET YOUR COMPLAINTS TO LOUIS COLLEY and everyone else Alabama AG, BBB, Securities Commission, to help them sort out the mess more easily. Be at the front of the line in your complaints.....not the back. They are trying to get money back for everyone. But, these things take time and going to a TV station is frankly dumb at this point when every newspaper and TV station in Alabama has already picked up on it. IT WILL NOT MAKE A CASE ANY BETTER FOR YOU.....you simply have to now go through the proper protocol's according to the AG in Alabama. How this has not hit CNN or MSNBC yet is beyond all reasoning on my part. But, you can go to montgomeryadvertiser.com & type in Anderson Nelms & from there you can see the stories & updates listed there. That is a local paper in his hometown. Read all of these post and BELIEVE what it is telling you. Allegro Law is out of business and the best way to protect yourself at this point is to make contact with the Receiver. His phone number really is 334-365-1500. He is appointed to sort out all of this mess for the State of Alabama and ALL individuals duped by Allegro Law. Jeremy McIntire is really with the Alabama Bar Assoc, Mary McClintoc is really over the case at the Alabama Attorney General's office....334-242-7300 and Jane Brannon is over the case at the Securities Commission of Alabama.

Allegro Law SUCKS.. Straight out. They have had all my money for 7 months and only took care of 2 out of 6 credit cards. Then when the 3rd tried to take me to court, they took care of it the morning of court. Now, they are telling me what I gave them (the amount they told me to give them) won't be anywhere near enough to pay for the last 3 credit cards. I have another credit card trying to take me to court and Allegro is changing hands or something, for the last month no transactions are being taken care of and no one can help me. "The accounts have been frozen till further notice." DON"T USE THIS COMPANY.

I called the Office of the Attorney General in Alabama and was tranfered to Mary Mcklintoc (334)353-1831 (a very nice lady) and she gave me the name and phone number of the Receiver apppointed to handled all the money from Allegro Law's account. His name, phone # and address are below:
Louis Colley, Receiver (334)365-1500 & fax (334) 365-1601
P.O. Box 680840, Prasttville, Alabama 36068
When you call his office his secretary will ask you to fax a brief description of your complaint along with a copy of your contract and a bank statement showing all the payments made to Allegro Law. She will also ask you to mail any additional information pertaining to your case. I called today and she told me that Mr. Colley was in court and that he was going to call me this afternoon. So people, call the Receiver's Office today and give his secreatry your name and fax your information as soon as possible. She told me that even if you have filed a complaint with the Attorney General and the BBB you need to get your information to the receiver beacuse all the infarmation you sent will be kept at those offices for their files and future references and will not be sent to the Receiver's Office due to privicy issues. I called Mary M at the Office of the Attorney General and she confirmed that what I was told was true. So again, I can not stress how important it is to call the Receiver's Office and identify yourself as a victim of Allegro Law. Also, if you have not filed a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General in Alabama, call Mary and she will send you a complaint form along with instructions.

Debt Settlement Attorney Keith Nelms with Allegro Law Gets Sued in Alabama

Posted by Steve Rhode

Action by the Alabama Attorney General this week further highlights the tough stance that law enforcement is taking against debt settlement companies. In this case it is against a lawyer and his related professional companies. This suit might lead other debt settlement attorneys to exit the debt settlement business to prevent the loss of their professional license. The suits and actions we are currently seeing against debt settlement companies are just the tip of the iceberg I predict.

Here is the official press release from the Alabama Attorney General’s office.

The Attorney General’s Office and the Alabama Securities Commission are suing a Prattville attorney and the companies he is operating in what is alleged to be one of the largest debt settlement schemes in the nation involving approximately 15,000 customers and millions of dollars nationwide. Autauga County Circuit Judge Ben Fuller is considering a request to grant a preliminary injunction against defendants Allegro Law LLC, Allegro Financial Services LLC, and Keith Anderson Nelms.

This preliminary injunction would prevent the defendants from continuing to engage in deceptive trade practices and to operate without a license. On June 30, the Attorney General’s Office and the Alabama Securities Commission obtained a temporary restraining order against the defendants’ that stopped the defendants’ conduct, appointed a receiver, and froze the defendants’ assets. A preliminary injunction would ensure that those consumer protections will remain in place.

Nelms is a resident of Montgomery whose law practice and financial services company are located in Prattville.

On its web site, the Allegro law firm offered to negotiate restructured debt plans for clients to pay off its debts, contending that such services provided through an attorney have superior results and are handled in a more ethical and professional manner.

The State’s civil complaint alleges that Allegro promoted a risky practice known as debt settlement, in which consumers stop making monthly payments hoping to encourage creditors to write off the debt, reclassify it as less collectible, and agree to settle for a greatly reduced payment. The complaint states that “defendants are attempting to gain this benefit by purposefully and artificially lowering creditors’ assessments of the quality of the customer debt, thereby inducing creditors to accept less to settle accounts. The consequence of this lowered credit standing is a lower credit rating for the consumer, more fees for the service provider, less money to the creditor, and more overall problems for the consumer.”

Attorney General King said, “Alabamians who are suffering hardship and distress during these severe financial times must be protected from exploitation and false solutions that may cause even greater harm. We contend that these defendants were operating a massive scheme that reached across our nation and unscrupulously targeted frightened and desperate consumers. With Alabama’s unemployment rate now at a record 25-year high of 9.8 percent, and many of our people struggling through no fault of their own, this is a particularly contemptible violation, and we will not tolerate it.”

Alabama Securities Director Joe Borg said, “This is a prime example of the cooperative efforts of agencies to protect the public. It is imperative that we require all companies to abide by the law and do not allow them to take advantage of our citizens. In these hard economic times, with resources scarce, the leveraging of our efforts to help consumers is of the utmost importance.”

According to the complaint, Allegro and Nelms have solicited and obtained clients from all 50 states, many of whom made their selection believing they would be represented by a law firm. However, because Nelms is not licensed to practice law in any state other than Alabama, these consumers were deceived. Furthermore, Alabama consumers who believed they were hiring a law firm to represent them were also deceived, because Nelms and Allegro were actually serving merely as a conduit to refer cases that were handled by a third party, AMERICORP, which is not a law firm. In addition to these deceptive practices, Nelms and Allegro were not licensed by the Securities Commission, as required to conduct debt payment services in Alabama.

The complaint alleges that defendants have violated the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and the Sale of Checks Act. The Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act is designed to protect consumers by prohibiting business from committing a variety of deceptive practices including engaging in any “unconscionable, false, misleading, or deceptive act or practice in the conduct of trade or commerce.” The complaint alleges that the defendants violated the Deceptive Trade Practices Act as a result of various deceptive business practices and various false, misleading, and deceptive representations made to consumers. Under the Sale of Checks Act, any person engaging in a business that receives money as agent for obligors for the purpose of paying such obligors’ bills, invoices, or accounts must obtain a license from the Commission prior to conducting business in Alabama. The complaint alleges that defendants have breached their statutory duty to obtain a license pursuant to the Sale of Checks Act prior to engaging in the debt payment services business from their office.

The Attorney General’s Office and the Alabama Securities Commission are seeking a permanent injunction, civil penalties, and other relief. The Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act authorizes civil penalties of up to $2,000 for each act or practice found to be in violation of the Act.
