I am not behind on anything.. but still

I am not in trouble, yet, but I can see the writing on the wall. I am not behind on anything, but I am *just* paying my bills every month. I make pretty good money, I have just assumed so much unsecured debt that there is nothing left over.

What is the best thing to do to prevent a financial crash and burn? I have about $40k in unsecured debt.

Thanks - Shawn

Have you tried to call the CC or (better yet) write them and ask for lower interest rates? If they say no, tell them you will shop around for one to transfer your balance to.

If you go with settlement they will have you go into default on all of you accounts and it will really ruin you credit. Plus it takes several years to settle and then another several years to clear you credit report.

I am talking with Superior debt relief now. I think I am beyond the point of just lowering interest rates - I don't know how much that would lower my payments.

Please check them out with the BBB before you agree to anything. You may also search this site for other posts about them

Yes, make sure that you check the company out before you give them any of your money, seen a few people get burned using these companies.

Is there anyway that you can handle this yourself as suggested, if you are not behind yet, writing the letters maybe an option, would not hurt to try anyway.

I enrolled with a company called Credit Card Zappers and they knocked off some of my interest fees.

I agree that bbb reports those with and without memberships... but in my state on bbb site ..most businesses without memberships state something like.."Not enough info on file...is not a member etc...." and people who pay for memberships say favorable things like "follows all BBB rules"....my husband and I first joined the BBB many many years ago ..when it was $25 a year to be a member and ...after now choosing not to be a member for over ten years... business is now incorporated and would cost--(the BBB just called asking us to rejoin and gave a quote--$885 a year to be a member)..I just don't think this is right..we don't pay and still have no negative ratings--states that we satisfactorily handle consumer complaints... then last comment from BBB cautions consumer to do more research on any business who is not affiliated with them...what I am trying to allude to..is there are some very good companies out there who refuse to pay membership in order to belong to BBB..and do not receive same consideration as those who do...and once again good luck shawn..BBB is a good place to search for complaints..but don't rely on someone simply because they are a member of BBB..on my local news tonight a retail sales company( member in good standing with BBB) had over 50 complaints in past month with news station( a consumer report and helping people in community type of deal)..being a member of BBB only means you have been in business for awhile and BOUGHT the membership..track record and time in business is what is important and I think an online google search is more productive than a BBB search but of course that is just my opinion
