I have a appointment with Legal Helpers tomorrow to file for Chapter 13. Should I go with a debt settlement Company first? Have anyone had a good experience with a settlement company?

debt settlement is certainly an option. I guess it depends on what type of debt you have and what you want to happen. I went with a debt settlement company and I am very sorry that I did but I have heard of people having good experiences. You also, with the help of many people here could do debt settlement by yourself. Debt settlement will affect your credit rating but probably not as long as bankruptcy.
If you do decide to go with a debt settlement company I will say what I tell everyone: Do your homework. Make sure the company is in good standing with the BBB. Search this site to see if anyone has had any exerience with the company. Read all documents and make sure you understand them especially what type of refund they have if they can not settle an account.

hi! i agree with spatterson. avoid bankruptcy at all costs if you can. it can create a lot of problem in the near or distant future if you think of taking a fresh loan or credit again. it will stay with you for the next ten years or so. consider debt settlement or consolidation first with an authorised company. as far as your credit rating is concerned, it will start improving once you start clearing your debts.
