Have you verified that allied interstate is authorized for the collection? It seems from the words of American Express that they have hired AI for collections. First confirm whether your account has been sold off to this CA or they have just been hired for collections. If they have been hired, you can still send your payments to Amex. You don't have to deal with AI if Amex is accepting payments from you.

One more thing comes in my mind is to check the date of last activity on this account. You must make sure whether the SOL is still active. If the statutes have expired, it will remain in your file but you won't be forced legal collections on it. Get the debt validated by AI and check whether all information put in it is correct. Confirm everything before you make any payments to them

Consolidation companies can work with collection agencies. This is normal for them. Good counselors know how to make the deal with the CAs. And you will be surprised to find that the CAs who never wanted to work with you will accept payments from the consolidation companies. Actually, most of the times, they find the customer to be an easier catch for them and they don't want to talk with some professionals. But they want to recover the money too.

Amex is making a deal to you. Should I think that they still hold your file and have not sold it off to outside CA. If you can push more, you can actually deal with Amex directly and won't have to work with Allied.

Hi my daughter has defaulted (for lack of a better term) on her large sallie mae loan. Allied Interstate has been callinf and just yesterday she spoke to them and made a payment plan. However now she is afraid it is a scam. Could it be? She certainly does owe a debt and she does want to pay it. BVut she is afraid that she may have made a mistake in authorixzing the auto withdrawal from the bank, please give me some advice...quick! Thank you
