This is only my opinion, but:
I have to agree with some of these posts, and then again there's some disagreement.
These "outside" companies go by very different rules.
Here's a copy of an email I received from the Financial Service Authority in the UK. I attempted to report Cashtoday and aliases to see what they would say.
Unfortunately for us, these lenders will continue to harrass you at unspeakable hours and at great length until you settle with them.
I settled with them for a nominal amount and the harrassment stopped.
This was, of course, my choice. I decided not to engage in conversations with them at 3am.
Filing complaints with US government agencies may make you feel better, but in the long run, I think some of our complaints tend to fall on deaf ears.
I still think, and I do, stand up and fight for what's right. But also want to continue a peaceful existence in my home.
Again this is only my opinion.

Dear Mrs
Thank you for your e-mail dated 14 April 2006.
In regards to your complaint concerning a Payday Lender, this type of lending would only come from a finance company and would therefore not be regulated by the Financial Service Authority.
The only organisation that look into matter concerning these companies are the Finance and leasing association, as the Financial Ombudsman Service can only investigate complaint against FSA regulated firms.
The Finance and Leasing Association web-site address is:www.fla.org.uk.
Yours sincerely
Leah Fitzpatrick

Subject: Payday Lender in UK
Hello..
I am writing from the United States. I have mistakenly taken out an unsecured loan with an online payday lender that claims to be working out of the UK.
I was hoping for some advice from you on how to go about locating these people as they have started to harrass me. I just received a call tonight at 11:30 pm from them wanting to make payment arrangements.
I am in no way trying to get out of this debt, but am concerned about their business practices and believe they are in violation of several collection laws in your country as well as ours.
Could you please send me some information on your collection laws?
And perhaps you may be able to locate this company:
Cash Today Limited d/b/a Cash2day4u
Phone number is american exchange: 208-492-2780
I am at my wits end with these people as they are trying to retrieve my bank account information after I was forced to freeze my account to debits.
I certainly would appreciate any and all help you may be able to give.
Thank you
Sincerely,
|
