I have custody of my younger brother, who is autistic, and has many doctors appointments. I also owe about $3,000 for an accident I had in '03. Is there any way, having a special needs child, I can get a release on my license as long as I agree to pay a monthly fee as some type of settlement or would it be a "lost cause"?

Maybe the license is suspended until the 30k is paid!
Ya think? Its been 4 years. That seems harsh unless it was a VH, DUI or a multi repeat.

Looks like suspension of driver's privileges until court or ticket is paid. All I can suggest at this stage is to find a criminal defense lawyer and inquire about getting a hardship license. Since this is a court debt it is not even considered a covered debt under most consumer laws.

I don't know about accidents and how that affects your driving privileges, but have you contacted the highway dept. to see if you can get some sort of route restricted license? Also, there is probably some sort of appeals process that you can go through in order to get the suspension lifted. You will probably have to come up with a portion of the balance due and then make feasible arrangements for the rest. This is how it works in my state when people's license get suspended for not paying child support. There could be a similar process for unpaid tickets, etc...
