I was only 4 weeks late on this loan and he showed up at my house with another guy. Is this legal?

sorry to hear you're going through a hard time.
From the lender's standpoint, 4 weeks is 30 days - 1 month - so the loan is past due in their eyes, and subject to whatever collection procedures they use in their office. Some companies will send their employees to customers' doors in an attempt to collect, especially if they haven't been able to contact them by phone or mail. Whether it's legal or not is another matter - I'm sure one of our other members with more knowledge in that area will be by soon to post info for you on that.
Is this a payday loan, or a small personal loan? If you can post a little more info about the type of debt this company is trying to collect, we can be of more help to you.

He just said your payment has not come yet. I talked to a lasy around the 15th and said I wouldn't beable to pay it untill around the 5th of January. SHe said fine.

There's no federal law that says they can't make house calls. I don't know of any state laws that forbid a creditor from making a "door-knock" either.
I don't think it's very safe on their own part to go wandering around some neighborhoods, but I think the law lets them do it if they want to.
They cannot harrass or intimidate you, however. They cannot create a breach of the peace. If you tell them to leave, they would have to go. If you tell them you can't pay now, they couldn't refuse to leave until you did pay. Even if they tried to tell you they want the laptop and tv back, you could refuse and tell them to get a replevin order from the court. If they give you any problems, simply call the police.

Many years ago my brother worked for a "loan company" and when the clients were late, he would have to go out to their homes and try to collect! He hated that, thankfully he moved on to another career choice, but because I know he did it, I know in some places it must be legal. But in todays crazy world I would sure hate to walk up to someones door like that to ask for payment!
