I have 37,ooo in debt. I've already set up a payment arrangement with the 3 credit card companies that have lowered the interest to 3-0% . They will be paid off within 5 years. Is this good, or can I do better? I might need to try the debt settlement process as now I can't pay my mortgage very well. I am often late with those payments.

Did you sign up on this board if you did a debt counselor will be calling you and they will offer you a free consultation and put you in contact with a debt cons/debt management co. Check the BBB on whoever you are interested in.

If you have anyother questions just post them and someone will come along and answer them or direct you to where you need to go.

If you do decide to go with a debt settlement company, see if they are a member of tascsite.org and check them out with the BBB. Also you will want to call a few different ones listed on the site and as fee's for each are different can can very greatly. Make sure you look at all your options first though as DS does affect your credit much more, but once the accounts are settled you can start rebuilding your credit. Right now I'm in the process of doing this, and my credit is in the tank!! but I'm looking forward to getting these debts settled and rebuilding my credit.

Good luck !

If you are looking for a debt settlement Company, you can go to a website called Lowermybills.com and use the Debt Wizard. They will match you with up to 4 different companies, and Lower My Bills is also a member of Tasc.

I've been working with a company called Clear Debt Results. So far they have done everything they said that they would do and haven't taken anything that is unexpected. They want us to sign a limited power of attorney over to them giving them the power to negotiate with our creditors on our behalf. We have not done this yet but are planning to. I have seen some complaints on the BBB online, but all were addressed by the company and solved. I just wanted to find out if anyone else has had any experience with this company and if a limited power of attorney is a normal thing for debt settlement.

Also, and I forgot this, we are beyond trying to get a consolidation loan or credit counseling as our credit is already not good and also we are struggling with paying our mortgage. We tried to get our house refinanced so we could consolidate with that but that didn't fly either.
