Are there any reputable CC settlement companies? I lost my job earlier this year due to a plant closure and have started a new one for substantially less money. Right now we are not able to make the minimum payment on these cards. I have already discussed the bankruptcy options with an attorney and would rather not pursue that avenue if I do not have to. Right now I am carrying about $25000 in unsecured debt and my credit rating is excellent.

yeah kash is right do that, and you may also want to use the search option on this site as you'll find many others who have either thought about using these companies or have. you may get names of companies that you can research on your own.
Here's what I do:
get the individual names of companies and I look them up with the BBB (very reputable way to research)
another thing I do (that's not scientific by any means) is check with associated content (you can google them and they'll direct you to their site)
there are so many people there who have dealt with various types of debts and companies that if you type in an individual name of a co, you may get lots of hits. People write all the time on there about their individual experiences and i've learned alot (again though...not scientific) i like to broaden my horizons when I research and I like reading about other people's experiences with things. try it and see if it helps

Welcome to the Community Debt Stinker is right, do your homework before deciding which option to go. Take advantage of the free credit counseling, there may be other options for you. Hvae you considered consolidation, instead of settlement? I don't think it will affect your credit as bad as settlement- but not sure.
In consolidation, you can put all your unsecured debt into one payment, with lower interest. Since you are
current and you rating is excellent, I am not sure you want to do this either. I think you have to be in default before this happens, but someone else who has done this can answer you.
Talk with others, post here and ask questons, we are here to guide you through the process!!..karen
