Once you decide to do this, how long does it take to get the debt consolidation plan going?

Be sure about the program that you are signing for with the company who is helping in solving your debt related problems. If you are going for a debt management, not a debt settlement plan, then your accounts will automatically get current after the first payment is done to the creditor. Depending upon the monthly payment, you have set up with the debt management company after analyzing the total amount, he will tell you much time will be needed to become debt free.
