First, click on the Bud Hibbs link below this comment, and see if any of the credit card companies are listed. If they are, it may give you advice in dealing with them. Let me know if the link provides you with any relevant info.

I suppose the worst they can due is sue. If this should happen, be sure and answer the summons, and show up on the court date.

Have you asked your credit card companies if they will lower or drop the interest so you can get caught up? I did this with my son who is on disability, and told them he had nothing, but we wanted to get this paid off, and they did it. It was called some type of hardship program, it would be worth a shot.
Alot of times they will say they want xx dollars, but if they find out they can get something instead of nothing, they will work with you..Good Luck..Keep us posted..KAren

The "worst" they can do if you default on your payments to them is pursue you pretty relentlessly, send your account to a collection agency (who will pursue you even more relentlessly, with phone calls to home and work), and as a last resort, if you do not pay after all that, many of them can and will take you to court over the unpaid balance and (if you do not show up to the court date), obtain a default judgement which would then allow them to pursue garnishment of your wages (if allowed by your state law). All of this will obviously have a major impact on your credit rating and ability to obtain credit in the near future.
