yay, i got a promotion at work, earning almost twice as much as i was before! this is really great for me because now i can pay back all kinds of money that i owe and be able to eat something besides spaghetti in a can.
the problem is, i'm my third month into debt settlement... aren't the cc companies going to see that i have a huge increase in income and most likely laugh in my face? I mean, now, I could afford to pay what the minimums were before I had to do all this.
i called my debt settlement place and they told me it didn't matter, that by earning more i could save more to pay them all back. That sounds logical (in the sense of earning more = saving more) and yet i would have to assume that all credit card companies are morons. They can't be THAT stupid. Can they?
What I truly want to do is either borrow from my parents (don't worry, I don't have a borrowing problem anymore!!!), which they offered to do anyway, or get one of them to co sign on a loan since my credit sucks now, and offer to settle ASAP with each company.
i can't be the only person who has had a bit of good fortune amid the storm, i was wondering what others did in this situation?

Congratulations on your promotion, that is fabulous news!! Lorri is right..there is no reason the cc companies would know about it, you're not obligated to tell them.
I'm not a big fan of robbing Peter to pay Paul..that's really what you would be doing if you got a loan to settle ASAP.

Way to go on your promotion-think positive thoughts and don't ruin your good news! That's scary, how did they know how much your house and car were worth? I've had creditors ask me,but I never told them, and they acted like they didn't know if I even had a house!Unless you tell them,I don't think they have any way of knowing...Karen

dunno how they figured it all out, but that was the time they also called me at my workplace, and i certainly didn't give them the number, nor did any of my friends or family.

Suzzie,
did they call your workplace and talk to YOU? Your payroll dept CANNOT give out any info about you, including how much you make. There really is no way they can know your earnings, unless you tell them yourself.

The payroll cannot give out the personal info or about the salary hike. But what happens if the credit company tries to get the information tactfully. I know this is not fair way but if they get the information they were looking for, they can change their lines. Besides, the credit companies can run a credit check and get the personal info about you. So, I am still confused if a company can know about the salary hike. I think they will.

I really think it's paranoia..Everyone gets raises, the CC companies are not lying in wait to see if you get a raise so they can charge you more...They're not going to find out on their own, they don't freakin' care! They aren't concerned about YOU..They have a zillion accounts to deal with. I do HR for a living, and I've never even seen this come up. Don't worry about it, enjoy saving your extra money.
