|
|
I just wanted to make everyone new to the board aware that payday loans are not an easy thing to get rid of. It seems that lately there have been a lot of generic posts giving people incorrect information about how to deal with their payday loans.
The ONLY generic advice, that applies to 100% of the people with pdl's, is the file a complaint with your attorney general's office. Everyone needs to do this, or else these companies will keep doing what they are doing.
Even closing your bank account is not something everyone should do. Some states have laws making you criminally liable if the account is closed.
Everyone's pdl situation is different, and there is no generic way to deal with them.
Each state has different laws. A handful of states have great laws that really protect the consumer from these predatory lenders. But most of them don't have laws specifically dealing with pdl's. Some states have laws capping the interest rate, but even that isn't cut and dry. Just reading the laws doesn't tell the whole story. Research is needed to find out exactly what the laws mean and how to interprete them.
Anyone can post information here. That doesn't mean it is correct. This is a public board. While it may seem someone is helping you, you don't necesarliy know where that information is coming from, or if it's right. I don't think it comes from a malicious place, but these laws are more complicated then they look in most cases. Sometimes the wrong information will work, and that just makes others think it's right.
While this board is a great resource and has a ton of information, we all must remember that each person's situation is different. What works for one might not work for another.
Newcomers should read through the information, and verify anything they need to. That may mean calling up your state's banking dept and asking them some questions. Just hearing the answer you want to hear isn't the right solution. Sometimes you are kinda screwed, and have to take a totally different approach t the situation then if your state prohibited pdls.

Sorry, but it seems to me that the two of you have nothing but criticism for the great advice many of the members give here. Not sure why you feel you should go around correcting others and give posters and other moderators direction on what they should be doing. And please, do NOT instruct me to sign in! If I don't are you going to "report" me and have me banned. It seems a few people have a holier than thou attitude and do nothing but criticize others advice. Anybody knows that laws vary from state to state and each state has its own rules.

I'm only saying this because people have been posting incorrect information and users should know this.
Most of the advice is great, but sometimes people don't do the research and get things wrong. I've gotten things wrong myself, and I've never accused anyone of having a holier than thou attitude when they simply corrected me.
People come onto this site very vulnerable. They need correct information and advice. Period.

Excuse me but between the two of you, you both make it appear that a response isn't official until it gets either of your's nod of approval or passes your standards. And have you and cajunbuldog done all the research yourself on all 50 states? And is this why you can feel the need to correct others? How can you possibly expect people to believe that you know all the info on all 50 states regarding payday loans? That is ridiculous. PERIOD.

Wow. I have to agree with Lorri, you should be careful with whatever advice you take.
I know that me personally...I would double check any info I get before acting on it. Most of us here aren't attorneys, and none of us know everything. We're all going to be wrong. If I take anyone's advice and it's wrong..It's my fault.

I agree with you and Lorri. The two of you have been around here so long and have been through the ringer with the pdl mess, as have I. By the way, is there a person we should run our advice through before we get permission to post it? Just curious. We come here to let others know what are experience was and what worked for us. I think a few of us have been around the block and know what we are talking about.

I never said anything about getting anyones permission before posting. I don't know what you have against me, but I was just warning people to double check information before they take a strangers advice!

And actually, with the help of several other users of this board, we are checking with the state's banking dept for every 50 states to get the correct info on them. I'm not posting my personal reading of them, I'm posting what the state officails say.

Your post and Cajun's post is pretty much an insult to myself, somebody who has been on here for awhile and been through the situation and gives advice.

You yourself in another post said that people aren't complaining to their state's ag's office enough, and that people are thinking that it's really easy to get rid of pdl's.

What does that have to do with this post? Really, what?

Everything! The post is about people getting their AG's office involved from the start, and making sure they have the correct info. This post isnt criticizing anyones posts, or saying they need to be approved as correct before posting. You are just looking to be mean to me.
I'm just trying to get the correct information to people. If you have a problem with me trying to help people because I haven't posted on this board for years then you are the one with the problem.
My pdl mess started years ago. Just because I didn't post then doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm sorry, I guess I mistakenly thought people would care more about helping others get the information they need then who was right about what. I didn't think that was what the board was about.
