I got a call from Consumer Counseling of America. The guys on here seem like really nice people- and they were willing to help me. He explained to me the situation that I was in was totally understandable- tons of people have had the same problems - i.e 6 or more PDL's and falling behind on more bills because of them. He was really nice and totally had me hooked. Then came a phrase that halted me in my tracks. "Your file will go to the law offices of Richard A. Brennan".

All I want to say here- is do a little research about Richard A. Brennan. Type his name into the research field here. I have read a lot on here before deciding what my best path of action was (thanks moderators and debt community members!) and there seems to be a bit of controversay about this lawyer.

It's always best to do your own research on a consolidation or settlement company before you sign on with them - you are handing them your financial well-being, placing it in someone else's care and control, basically. Would you hand a stranger that you knew nothing about your child? Definitely not - and don't hand over your financial information either, before doing some thorough checking.

Check their reputation with the BBB, run a search through this site on their name, and do a google search on the internet on them to see if there are any complaints out there, and what the nature of the complaints are.
