I have 70k in three unsecured cc debts. If i do not finance the amounts due but pay each the total settled amount, what percentage of the current debt should i shoot for with the collection agencies?

Proposals vary from co. to co. but overall, you might be able to negotiate between 60% to 75% of the total amount. Make sure that you have the money available because the collector will like to close the account after you have put the commitment and they finalize the deal.

You can try to negotiate with the same proposals with your creditors and see what they have to offer. They will be willing to settle the account if they still hold your file and you won't have to pay anything to the CA.

who are the 3 creditors? Some creditors are very aggressive and are quick to go through the court system.

ACS those wonderful people on behalf of Citibank

I've worked out a 40% with redline on behalf of Discover

And CreditSolutions is handling PM financial / Chase at a net percentage of 55% over three years. No lump sum up front. Better than I could do with a negotiated balance up front.

So unfortunately I'm left with tackling ACS myself. They've offered me 68% up front. Gee what a bargain. lol

Any advice on ACS? Im assuming they would be a quick trip through the court system that you spoke of dave. Thats not an option and these are outstanding for over a year.

Thanks in advance folks

Greg

Are you communicating with your proposals in writing with ACS? In case, they take you to the court, you will have proof of your intentions of clearing the debts. The judge will give you more preference and evaluate your financial situation before making any plan? I don't think ACS will be willing to go that far. They will settle the matter outside the court. Re-negotiate with them and stick to your plans.
