Well here in texas the debt collector has to be registered with the Sec. Of State to do collections in this state. Here is something I found "Section 392.101 of the Texas Finance Code prohibits a third-party debt collector or credit bureau from engaging in debt collection in Texas unless the third-party debt collector or credit bureau has obtained a surety bond and filed a copy of the bond with the Office of the Secretary of State."
Now I have this collection agency people first recoveries that are tring to collect on a debt. Well when they called I asked for there file or surity bond number with the Sec. of State to do bussiness with here in texas. Well to make a long story short the guy I was talking to said that I had to check with the commerce in MN.. But I told him that is good up there but not down here. He switched me to another person and the I got switch to another person and so on then I got switched to a manager Voice mail so I left a message.
The question I have is If they are not registered in my state do I have to deal with them? and if I ask them for the number to give them the right to do business in TX do they have to produce it or do I have to research it?

To the best of my knowledge, they are not required to give it to you.

If not registered, you might be able to file suit against them. Consult an atty to be sure.

PFR is big enough to have something to lose so they arent going to waste their time collecting in states where they are not licensed. PFR is registered in over half of the states and has lega representation in close to 30 states
