Can someone please point me in the right direction to start tackling the Mount Everest of debt that I am in? I've been researching non-profits because I figured they would be the most legit....Not sure if Town and Country is non profit but they seem okay and Clear point is non-profit, but now sure what to do......SOMEONE HELP ME!!! PLEASE!@!!

Welcome to the Community Very Happy I know how you feel!!

IF you signed up for the free credit counseling, someone will contact you and discuss options you may have concerning your debt, such as consolidation.

There are Ranking Charts on the Tab above your screen, that may help.

Check out anyone you go with with the BBB, and others who have used them through completion.

Feel free to ask questions, we are here to help..Karen

I am in a debt management program through a not for profit agency...if you should decide to go this way...you will be amazed at the instant help. You will have to make a budget and list all your debt...they will contact the creditors and make payment arrangements...and you will hardly ever have to deal with them again. Generally what they do is pay each a certain amount each month...as the smaller ones get paid off the money is then added to the larger ones, and so on...in this way they pay down/off your bills. I have sent extra money everytime I could and have paid down a 3rd of my debt in just 4 months.

Well now even the non profit company is telling me that I'm screwed!! The said that we don't make enough to cover anything so seek legal advise....well, if I can't cover my bills how would i be able to pay for legal advise?!?!?! Even the people that are supposed to be there to help me figure things out are not helping me!! Does anyone know if I can just have my mortgage company re-do my loan so it's not so high without actually re-financing?? And does anyone know if there's any easy way to get out of my car lease?? And does anyone know exactly how T & C Acceptance works??? When I looked them up on the BBB website, I saw that they had complaints against them that were taken care of but I don't know how to figure out if that amount of complaints are okay or not.....HELP!!! Sad

If your credit is shot it's hard to refinance your home. They will not change the rate on the original terms of a mortgage, nor will they extend the term, the only option is refinance. I would talk to my mortgage company before things get out of hand. If you let the lease car go back it's a blemish against your credit and a possible collection ... but maybe you could settle that later when you are back on your feet. Do you have enough equity in your home to do a debt consolidation on a second mortgage?

well, my credit score is still semi-ok but we are so stretched to the limit that it's affecting it. I have no equity in my house to take out, and as a matter of fact, we would have to refi for 100% because that's what we owe...that's even if our house would appraise for that much since the market has slipped. As for the lease car, I don't want to just surrender it, I want to keep my credit as intact as possible, I was just wondering if there was any way out of it without it hurting my credit. Can everyone just pray that I hit the lottery tonight so I could take care of all our problems....I always say I would share, I dont need it all, just enough to pay off my debt and make sure I have enough for my kids for college!!!!! I feel like I can't breathe under neath all this debt and now I feel even worse because I thought I could get some sort of help out there, but now even this flippin' non-profit debt program place is turning me down!!!!!
