Talk to your lenders before you decide closing the account. It won't be a good decision to close the account before you prove some unfair activity like unauthorized withdrawals in your checking account. At this situation, I will suggest you to talk to your lender and explain your problems. See if they are willing to work with you. Offer them your payment proposals and send some money in advance if that makes your deal stronger.

viv I am going to pm you two contacts that I have in California. One is for a lady in the state Attorney General's office. She has an interest in internet lenders who are loaning to CA residents.

The other is for a lady in a consumer's rights group. She may be able to help you with your store front lenders.

I'll find the laws for CA in a few. In the meantime look at my blog, there is a template letter to use there for settling with the internet lenders.

Scroll down to Division 9 Chapter 2. This is the applicable law for your internet loans only.

Use the same link and read Division 10 to know your rights regarding your store front loans.

They can give you payment plans and they cannot charge you. Call them and try to work things out with them.

Quote:
23036. (a) A fee for a deferred deposit transaction shall not
exceed 15 percent of the face amount of the check.
(b) A licensee may allow an extension of time, or a payment plan,
for repayment of an existing deferred deposit transaction but may not
charge any additional fee or charge of any kind in conjunction with
the extension or payment plan. A licensee that complies with the
provisions of this subdivision shall not be deemed to be in violation
of subdivision (g) of Section 23037.

You can freeze your account for a period of time, so it will only do deposits and not debits. I would look into that.
