I just started going back to school at nights half-time. I applied for a federal student loan but have not heard if approved yet. I heard that you will not be approved for a federal student loan if you ever defaulted on one. Well, 22 years ago, I had a state grant for $2600 for a business school I attended after high school. Iwent on the aessuccess.org web site and noticed the loan was showing "claim paid" Do you think that will hinder me from getting my new loan?

You do not repay grants....this would have been a loan. AES doesn't handle grants....they did loans. Did you pay it off? AES would have filed a claim with your guarantor...that is why they are showing paid. If you have not paid it off, you will NOT get any federal aid. If it was paid off and resolved, you will get aid.

Hi,
Pay off the whole loan amount to your loan guarantor and see that it is updates "paid in full" with AES. Otherwise you won't get a federal loan.

Please do NOT guess at answers. Paying the guarantor will NOT change the AES trade line.
