I have been reading about debt settlement until I am sick of it. I have $137000 of unsecured credit card debt. Take Charge America suggetsed I go bankrupt. I how do you find out if a debt settlement company lives up to its promises?

The best way to find out if a debt settlement company lives up to it's promises is to check up on them before you even start using their program. Check the Better Business Bureau's website - see if there are any complaints against them there. Check to be sure they are licensed to do business in your state. Also, see if you can find anyone in your area who has used them - see if the company will offer references.

That's a serious amount of debt. Settlement is tough, but if you're looking to go that way, perhaps you may be served well to speak to the people at forgetadebt.com. I know they do debt counseling now, but I'm sure they are offering something for people in your position.
