Hello everyone.
Nearly three years ago I ran away from the UK owing about £80,000 to banks and credit card companies. The debts came from a divorce and gambling ( I don’t know how the gambling thing happened, everything was some kind of breakdown, I guess ). Now I have been offered employment elsewhere in Europe. I have no desire ever to return to the UK, but feel I should do something to sort things out.
Any advice welcome????

Welcome to the site, I know absolutely nothing about the laws of the UK so I cannot give you any advice.

Will the employment you are being offered pay you enough to where you can start paying off your old debts while managing to take care of yourself? Either way I would consider taking care of those debts just for your own peace of mind. I couldn't imagine always feeling like I'm on the run from something.

You probably would want to find a board that specializes in collection laws in the UK and whatever country you intend or would like to move too.

I agree with soaplady..and want to wish you the best of luck!!!!!....I am thinking if you want to sort things out to satisfy your conscience you can contact all entities owed..and set up some sort of settlement.. but if you are living here in U.S.A.and keep living here.... gambling debts are not collectible....and that may be something to keep in mind

Hi! did any one from UK contact you about it? if they have not, i guess it is still better that you go back and try to pay up for the debts. you never know when they will come after you, and if they create a problem in your present work place then it would not be a good thing for your career. or else you will also be in a pressure. it is good to lead a tension free life rather than holding on to a few bucks. good luck!

I think that you need to take Soapladys advice on this one.
