Dont listen the Shepps, he doesnt know what hes talking about. Calling the banks will do absolutley nothing. They arent going to stop the interest or late fees. They may give you a lower payment but its just goiing to prolong the time your in debt and youll end up paying back alot more than you borrowed (150 %). With a counseling agency you pay back 120%, you only get lower interest and it takes 5 years. Witha settlment you pay back 40-60%. Your out of debt in 3 years or less, and you will be able to rebuild your credit with credit repair in less than 6 months to a year. If you dont want to go with a settlment conmpany, stop paying your cc's put in savings what you were sending them, fall past due, and when you have 35-40% of your balance, call them up and settle your debts on your own. However, you run the risk of legal action. When going with an attorney based debt settlement, you will be much better off in the even of legal action, and will have the resources you need to get out of debt with less of a headache. Also look into the fdcpa and see how you can stop creditors from calling by sending cease and desist letters. Good luck, and somebody stop idiots like shepps. Thank you.

If you stop paying you're bills, you're account at some point, if not already will be sent to a collection attorney, if that collector decides that they want to take you to court with the attorney's permission in most cases a judgment will be placed against against you. Now with a judgment against you, if the collection law office does enough homework and find's out that money is being saved to pay you're creditors, you're bank account that has the money (per jack@ss's advice above) can be frozen (Although he did put a disclaimer there lmao). It is evident that the above person work's for a settlement company, for starters going with an attorney based debt settlement company, pray and hope that there is an attorney on staff that is licensed in you're state to represent you, in more cases than not, that is not the case. Very rarely do you see an attorney that works for a settlement company or even has an ownership interest in a settlement company represent you in court.

I happen to work for a company that offers credit counseling, however it is not for everyone either. Also regarding the fdcpa that stands for (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) the moment you send a cease and desist letter to a bank or agency, it is a flag that they have one last attempt to reach you and then 90% of the time it's going to COURT.

Again call you're banks try and see if they will get you at 0-8% and lower the payments, BUT before that I would recommend going on line and finding a free monthly budget worksheet and getting a snapshot of what your financial condition. If you are upside down then present that to the banks.

Mr Starks, before you jump to conclusions and start insulting people you should know who you are dealing with. I worked for both types of companies; I am a certified credit counselor and also did settlements. I do not work for either anymore. So get your facts straight buddy. And if you know anything about money at all, you would know that in this market, it makes absolutely no sense to give your money to the credit card companies. Filing chapter 7 is best bet. Than settlement. People dont save a dollar monthly by going with a credit counseling program, it looks bad on the credit, and is pointless for someone who needs to get out of debt QUICKLY, as opposed to 5 years. And when the person who is looking for help is done WASTING TIME calling your banks and asking for a 0-8% int rate LMAO and a lower payment, and when you realized they wont help you, file chapter 7 if you qualify, if not SETTLE!!

What's a matter the truth hurt?? I didn't suggest credit counseling either. Do you're homework and then come back to this thread and talk. For your information the banks are bending over backwards right now to work with consumers due to the financial crisis and the bankruptcy index climbing by more than 12% from last year at this time. Telling a consumer to file chapter "7" without looking at crystal clear snapshot of their financial profile is a "moron move". WOW "Certified Credit Counselor" whoo hooo..."So am I" big deal an 8 hour course.

Stop drinking the "Koolaid" and get real with consumers. Then again the almighty dollar will do that to your brain. Did you ever wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and say to yourself "why am I not doing DS or Counseling anymore" haha...Anyway, perhaps maybe you're selling widgets now. **CONSUMERS DO NOT LISTEN TO THE MAN ABOVE**

Perhaps i got out of those 2 industires becuase there are better ways to make money than listening to people who dont have any financial education complain about how its the credit card companies fault that they are in debt. I understand what youre saying, im not saying that the consumer should just go file chapter 7. obviously they may have some assets at risk and a full financial profile would be necessary to asses the right solution. However, before i negotiate with a bank that is going to possibly get bought out due to financial turmoil, i will take my money else where and rebuild my credit before i spend thousands of dollars paying back debt. The conusmer is going to have a hurt credit rating due to defaulting so whats the sense of paying it all back when you could settle, file for chapter 7, and get credit card offers in the mail weeks later. And by the way, I dont need to do homework, homework is for people who are still in school. I beleive that would be research. stop drinking the bong water and wake up. The country is in a financial crisis. Telling a consumer to avoid settlements when sending minimums to the cc companies could result in less food on the table, is also not a great strategy. Stop bad mouthing settlements and bankruptcy becuase your stuck in a rut selling credit counseling and youre trying to boost your sales. And yes i woke up a while ago and asked myself that, and the answer is because i have mastered the field of credit and decided to move forward and upward in my life instead of remaining stagnant! So why dont you relax with the WOW's the haha's and getting a hard on over a thread. Youre pathetic like the people who blame credit card companies for thier debt, the only difference is you sell people on programs that dont work, who let the almighty dollar get to them noew? Certainly not me.

Consumers Do not listen to Stephen Sparks, he is just trying to get people to sign up for his program, so he can profit off of your financial problems. If he really cared he would tell you the best way out of debt, spending the least of your hard earned money, than provide you with a plan to let this never happen again, and a way to increase your net worth, instead of ending up in debt all over again, as most americans who listen to people like Sparks often do. Good Luck and god bless.

Also Sparks, I happen to have a 725 credit score with MULTIPLE collections totalling THOUSANDS of dollars on my credit report that have NEVER went to court. They are set to come off very soon due to statue of limitations. Perhaps you are one of those poeple who paid all your bills on time your whole life never walked away froma bad debt and still cant get your score over 700, maybe thats why you are still in the credit industry, a little bitter towards credit card companies and consumers like myself who can work the system??

You should mind your own business! I think both me and Sparks, despite our differences would both agree on that one!

I went to google and typed in this company's information and this is what I found. My wife spoke with them on Wednesday of last week and said that the company promises to reduce our debt by 50-70%. Can someone tell me if that is possible that has worked with this company or a company that is good? Thanks Jim.

The information posted for the AG is for convenience purposes only. The company that is talked about in this thread is located here in Florida. It is not the same Unified Financial Solutions in California.
