I notice that some settlement companies use a lawyer and some dont. Does anyone know if its better to have a lawyer on board your settlement company or doesnt it really matter?

I am def. a newbie here. However, a lawyer seems like something you would want to have.

If a company decides to sue you instead of settle right away, you will not have the money to pay for a lawyer yourself because you are paying so much into the trust fund and to the settlement company. Therefore, it seems as if you really do need the settlement company to be able to support you in that situation.

so, i say yes.

hold on and someone who knows much more than i do will answer.

Honestly there isnt much of a difference. A lawyer really cant do any better than a company that isnt . The only advantage is that under the fdcpa a 3rd party collector can no longer call you and most only call your lawyer. Thats all. These settlement lawyers don't go to court with you if you get sued so dont believe the hoopla that they are better. As I have preached many a times please just shop around and check out any company or law firm out with the BBB.
