I have 45,000 dollars in debt. My husbands business failed, and with medical bills we were stuck using credit cards for a while. We had a payment plan with HSBC, and our last payment came out June 6th. The account was then charged off on June 30th, and sold to a debt buyer. We owe 11500.00 dollars on this account. I am very confused as to how this happened , however I want to know if I should settle with this law firm, john p . Frye or if I should do something else. Any help would be great as I am new to this, and though my husband was handling all this. This debt is only in my name.

Did the law office validate the account? You need to be confirmed that they have your file from HSBC? Go through the FDCPA laws and know about your consumer rights.
If you think that the charges added on your account are inaccurate, dispute it with the law office and they will send it to the original company for verification. Once you have all the details in accurate standing, you may try to negotiate on the settlement offer and pay off the debt. Be sure to get the PIF letter in writing after you have cleared the account with the law office.
