World Financial Network National Bank – Are consumers complaining?

World Financial Network National Bank is the credit card banking subsidiary of Alliance Data Systems Corporation. It is based in Columbus, Ohio. The company issues credit cards with its affiliate, World Financial Capital Bank. Read on to learn about consumers' experiences with this company.

Consumers' complaints against World Financial Network

Several consumers have complained against this company in the DebtCC forums. Here's what they have said about World Financial Network National Bank.

  • Fraudulent approvals: Consumers suspect that the company makes fraudulent credit approvals. They say that the company offers credit card accounts even when consumers have just been hit with a negative entry on their credit reports. Learn more...
  • Harassing those without an account: The company is said to harass consumers having no credit accounts with them. Instead of calling the actual debtor, World Financial Network National Banks calls wrong numbers and harasses people for payment. They even call consumers at odd hours of the day and inquire about unknown persons and their contact numbers. Find out more...

To tackle the creditor, consumers now maintain a record of their calls. They feel that the only way to tackle the company is to identify their calls and keep talking to them without using profanity, unless they hang up the phone.
  • Sending automated request for Social Security number (SSN): One consumer reports that he has received voicemail from the company asking for a payment. When he called back, the recording asked for his Social Security Number (SSN). He hung up the phone instantly, but a few days later a company representative called and insisted that he make a payment over the phone with the consumer's American Express card. The consumer hung up the phone but he later on verified with American Express that they had no dealings with World Financial Network National Bank. Learn more...
  • Sending mails with privacy statements: World Financial Network National Bank (WFNNB) often mails privacy statements to those who do not even have an account with them. They even send letters to non-customers requesting them to provide information on their accounts with WFNNB. Learn more...
  • Unauthorized withdrawal: Customers have complained that the company makes unauthorized withdrawals from their checking accounts. Find out more...
  • Insisting that payments be sent by phone: Customers complain that the company intentionally asks debtors to send in their payments by phone and not by mail. That's because the company can earn additional $10 or more through phone payment. Find out more...
  • Not responding to customer calls: The company calls individuals repeatedly, especially at their workplace and asks them to call a toll free number. Once a customer calls the number, he receives an automated message repeatedly asking for a nine digit account number he doesn't have, and cannot get in touch with a live person. Learn more...

Positive feedback about the company

In spite of so many complaints against World Financial Network National Bank, the company has received some good feedback as well. For instance, a customer has an account with the company through a store named Dressbarn. He receives statements from the store but makes checks payable to WFNNB-Dressbarn. He doesn't mail the payments, but he pays at the store directly. Once he did forget to make a payment on time and called the company to find out what to do. However, the representative at the company seemed very gracious and he even waived off the late fee.

I received a call a little while ago from an "Investigator Stevens (?)" of this bank. He did not identify the company he was calling from but the call came into my home and my cell from a 214#. I let the call go to voicemail and he left a message with an 800#. Out of curiosity I called the 214# and it was some kids cell phone in god knows what state. He said he's been getting all kinds of weird calls. I called back the 800# and left a message that I was returning a call.
So my question I guess is, has anyone else experienced this? Is this CA calling and routing the caller ID through other peoples phone numbers? Can they do that?
And who else does this CA represent because I can't think of who they would be at this point?

Jeez!! This doesn't sound right.

I will call world financial network bank and make them validate the debt. If they are a collection agency, they have to follow the federal laws. Be aware, the internal collections dept of the original creditor doesn't come under the fdcpa laws. I know this is true, but someone will double check it.

You will have to confirm if the person calling you is from an outside collection agency or it is the internal collections dept of wfnnb

Have you ever seen a case where the calls come in from an invalid or stolen phone number? That's what gets me. From what I read they are easy to deal with, but this seems real shady. World financial network national bank calling from stolen numbers

When you called the company, you heard the kid at the other end. How can this be lost or stolen number? The kid's parents must be unaware about what's going on and paying high phone bills.

Yeah I actually talked to the kid of wfnnb. I asked him if he was getting weird calls and he was like yeah the phone rings all the time with all these numbers I don't know. He said "I'm sorry I didn't call you".

I think you should call once more and say "Your number is illegally used and your parents are paying high bills because of this. Just let them know to change the phone number"

You'll help another person out of their debts.

Stockholder what's with the sarcasm. You are an idiot. If your such a hot shot why are you on a debt consolidation website? He acknowledged his mess up, but for a company to use shady practices is illegal. World Financial Network National Bank is crap and it is very noticeable if you just type in the name on google. All you will see is a list of complaints. I never asked for credit with them and they had no problem giving me an account with a negative credit entry within the first 20 days the account was open. Illegal practices led to approving credit by fraudulent approvals.

So with not being able to call World Financial Network National Bank, how the frick are you supposed to resolved outstanding issues. I am a statistic and quit paying due to some hardships. They kept calling, of course. I explained that my place of business burned and there were several other reasons. I had OUTSTANDING credit. Now I want to resolve this as I'm at a place where I can, finally. But I can't find a contact number and I should have kept at least one of my statements I suppose, but I didn't. They've not called or sent me a bill or letter in over a year. Yeah that long. Anyone know how to contact them?

You can google the internet for a phone number or try pulling your credit report. Ususally that will list the creditor and their contact information.

I do not have an account with this bank but they have been hounding me for several months because who ever did open a credit card account with them had the cell number before me....I have repeatedly told them, I dont know the person, I dont know where they are, It is not their phone number, not to call me, I have told them they are harassing me ...calling several times a day... and they just keep calling . I file complaints every time they call - doesnt seem to do much. They train their people very well - so I just play games with them now... I recognize ALL the numbers they use. I keep a log. I talk very loudly at them, I dont use profanity but I wont let them get a word in... I just go on and on and on... until they hang up. Several times I have then called them back repeatedly during the day just to "chat" - turn around is fair play. They are an incredibly unprofessional and unscrupulous company.

nancyjo ,Log down how many times a day they called , what time of day they called and the name of the person who called . Also write down the general conversation . If you keep good records you can likely sue them for harassment.

No problems with calls, just that I was unknowingly being charged an "insurance premium" I did not elect. It was roughly 1/2 the amt of my payment without my consent. Read your statements carefully.

there is an incredible amount of misinformation in this thread and I wanted to touch on a couple of things.

first, for anyone who believed NJ attorney, google the 214 area code. its Dallas, TX. not Ohio.

second, phone number spoofing (yes that's the real term) is easy and I used to do it all the time to mess with my friends. it does not run up anyone's phone bill except for the actual phone you call from. so if I call my friend scott from my phone, but spoof the number to make it look like I'm calling from his ex's - karen - number, he will think it is her calling, but all charges will apply to my phone and my account. hilarity ensues.

however in this situation hilarity is not ensuing, and what they are doing violates some federal law, im certain.
