I fell for the hype with TV sales! I purchased a computer thru Shop NBC with the idea that I could purchase an item, with no interest or payments for 12 months. After I applied and was "instantly approved", I received the merchandise. My intensions were to pay off 2 other cards during this period and then start my payments on this item. Only after I made this purchase (including the "extended warranty" - what a waste!), did I find out that if the entire amount was not paid off in this timeframe, that I would be charged interest dating back to the original date of purchase, PLUS any and all penalty charges they chose to impose, totaling over $600! I applied for a VISA, transferred the balance onto the credit card, but kept getting a bill from Shop NBC! Well, Shop NBC would not take my calls! They told me that I had to deal with their "xyz bank" - a/k/a World Financial!!! When I contacted World Financial, they didn't know what was going on with regard to the actual purchase. They were ONLY dealing with "the bill"!!! BEWARE OF THESE SCAMS!!! It took me several months to find out that the NEW CREDIT CARD COMPANY ERRONEOUSLY SENT THE MONEY TO THE WRONG COMPANY!!!! They sent it to a company (a type of department store) out in California!!! The new credit card company did not want to track down where they sent the money!!! SHOP NBC didn't want to talk to me, World Financial didn't know anything about the actual purchase, as they were only interested in the "bottom line" - what was owed, and this 3-ring circus went on for 6 months! I finally tracked down the money, but by law, the company that accepted this money and didn't know what to do with it, finally sent it back to the original credit card company! I am NOW STUCK WITH ALL THE OUTRAGEOUS PENALTY CHARGES, FEES, INTEREST CHARGES, ETC. that SHOP NBC has imposed!!! ONCE AGAIN: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU APPLY FOR A DEPARTMENT STORE CREDIT CARD OR ONE OF THOSE TV CREDIT CARDS! IT IS NOTHING BUT HEADACHES! MY CREDIT IS TOTALLY DOWN THE TOILET, AND THE PROBLEM HAS EXCALATED TO THE POINT OF NO RETURN, WHERE IT WILL TAKE ME OVER 2 YEARS OF WRITING LETTERS AND FILING COMPLAINTS WITH ALL THE APPROPRIATE FEDERAL REGULATORS, THAT I'M READY TO TRY TO FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY!!! Read the fine print BEFORE THE PURCHASE!
