I have a bunch of student loans through AES. If I'm so much as a day late in payment, the phone calls start pouring in to my father (the cosigner) and not me.
Isn't that a little too much? I mean for crying out loud, half the time I don't even get a bill in the mail and since I'm forgetful, it slips my mind. And shouldn't the phone calls be coming to ME since i'm the one with the loan?

I have to assume that these are private loans since Federal ones do not require co-signers.
Do they have your current phone number??
If your dad is the cosigner, legally he is just as much rresponsible for the debt as you are.

yes they are private loans used to cover expenses while I was in school and also to pay whatever financial aid didn't cover.
They should have my phone number as they have called a couple times in the past but never left messages. Plus when I filled out the loan forms, I did use my phone number. They definately have my address since I do get the bill in the mail (when they actually send one)
And I do understand that my dad is also responsible since he co-signed. However it just baffles me that the phone calls start if i'm so much as a day late. And also that they make no attempt to call me.

Private student loans have a higher rate of default than regular student loans so it just sounds like your lender is being proactive in default prevention.
