My fiance defaulted on a student loan. We are getting married. Can they come after my money? Once my name is changed?

No, they can't come after you even after marriage because the student loan was taken solely by your fiance and it was not a joint loan. So chill.

No they can't come after her, but any assets in both their names, IMO, they can attach.

It you are filing joint on taxes, they will seize both state and federal income tax returns. You can your portion returned via injured spouse paperwork but that can take time.

Since you will be married to him, you will be ineligible for FHA or VA mortgages. You will also be denied any FEMA benefits too.

Encourage him to get it resolved now, not later. It will indirectly affect you, especially if he gets denied licensing in certain professions and job and promotion loss due to not being able to pass security clearance.

Wow! I didn't realize that defaulting on student loans (not that I have) can affect you in so many different ways!

I think it is defaulting or having any judgements or debts, not specifically student loans. Although maybe because Student Loans are Government related, they are tougher and affect more than just your credit worthiness?
