My parents were paying my tuition, I had no loans or fed Aid. They stopped and resulted in me owning the university $7300. The university sent that to a debt collection agency and I now owe 9800. I am trying to enlist in the Army to get money to pay that off but, my recruiter said it might be a problem if im in default. So if anyone could tell me if I am, that would help ALOT. thank you

I believe if it went to a debt collection agency then you would be in default.

Tuition is due the semester you attend. You are considered in past due but technically not in default. It is a collection account. From what I know of military financial aid, they will not pay past due tuition accounts. They will give you funds to pay current loans, but not old tuition accounts.
