Are all Sallie Mae loans federally subsidized?? How can you determine if it is or not? The loan does not show up on the nslds website. Will statute of limitation apply to this loan if it's not federally subsidized?
Sallie Mae offers two federally backed loans-Federal Stafford Loan and the Federal Perkins Loan. If you have either of these two then its a federal loan otherwise you might have got an alternative student loan or private student loan.
Sallie mae offers both Stafford and private loans. As a general rule, sallie mae does not offer Perkins loans as those are administered by the school.

what about those "career training" loans from Sallie Mae? Those aren't federally subsidized correct? Are they eligible for discharge in bankruptcy or do the same rules apply to what's considered a "private" loan?
Career training loans are generally private loans.
Student loans, public and private are non dischargeable in bankruptcy.

so even if this loan is not showing on the nslds website, it's still not dischargeable? basically the loan was applied for, but my son never attended the school.. somehow the funds were dispersed to the school and now 10 years later we are being hounded by Sallie Mae for payment on this. What else can be done??
Sounds like you son enrolled and applied for the loan but then did not attend or withdraw officially which basically means he is legally responsible for the loan.

Some creditors and collection agencies refuse to lower the pay off amount, interest rate, and fees owed by the consumer.

Debt relief services may have a negative impact on the consumer's creditworthiness and his overall debt amount may increase due to the accumulation of extra fees.
The amount which the consumer saves with the use of debt relief services can be regarded as taxable income.
