Prayer Request....

Ok, maybe this might seem a little silly to some, but I need some prayer and good thoughts for my dog.

My Pembroke Welsh Corgi has been sick, as some of you know. She was VERY sick for about a week, and the vet said it was a virus, and that she'd take some time to recover from it. She got better after about 2 weeks of being ill, so I thought we were in the clear last week when she started eating again, and her system started functioning normally. However, now she is very ill once again, and is not able to keep food down. She is drinking normal amounts of water, so I don't think it's Parvo, which usually acts a lot quicker than this and they don't drink OR eat. The fact that she's been ill off and on for a few weeks now makes me think it's NOT Parvo, which would have finished her off by now, from all I've read about it.

I can't say what it is at this point, but we have another vet appointment tomorrow afternoon to find out. This appointment could go one of two ways: she gets treatment for what is a simple infection or virus, or she requires surgery, which I can't afford, and they won't allow me to make payments on - all has to be paid up front. The outcome of a diagnosis requiring surgery is not going to be good. I've agonized over this all day, and the not knowing is killing me. She's been so good about all of this, never once whining or complaining, just being stoic and quiet about it (as her breed does), but it's obvious she's not feeling well.

So, please keep a prayer and good thought in the air for us tomorrow afternoon. I will post the outcome once I get home from the appointment. I am having to borrow money in order to take her in yet again, as I've already taken her in once, and having made a 700-mile round trip this past weekend to pick my kids up from their dad, my funds are very low. I can only hope and pray there is a simple solution to whatever she has - and I hope the vet won't say "virus" again and send us home, as he did last time. This is obviously something more serious than a simple virus.

Thanks for listening to me rant about this - it's very upsetting. Crying or Very sad

oh Sue I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I will be sending good vibes and hope and pray that things will work out for you.

Have you tried a different vet? A second opinion? When she started eating again was she eating the regular food she always did? Because when I had my dog he got the "flu" and couldn't eat his regular food for a few days after he came home from the vet. I had to get some canned food. I believe is was chicken and rice. Thats because it was easier on his tummy. But you could make some yourself (I know some people do)

Good luck to you and your puppy. I will pray for the best.

It certainly isn't silly! You and your baby will be in my prayers.

Have you check out your state university vet programs? A friend of mine had a dog that had to have surgery, and they did her surgery for next to nothing.

Hopefully you won't even have to consider this. My shih-tsu was sick, vomiting, etc., for quite a while, and they finally found out she had this infection around her uterus, and they spayed her and she was ok!

There are some vets around this area that will let you pay them out- pours did. I checked into alot of places and found this one. It isn't fancy or as modern up to date tables, but they are really ggod, and care.

Let me know what happens Crying or Very sad KAren

Suebee, You certainly have my prayers. I am such am animal lover. Actually , I am still mourning the death of one of my cats. I didnt post about it, but i am so heartbroken. I know how you must feel with a sick dog. They become our family. Please keep me posted . I know that vet bills can be overwhelming. Unfortunately, it was too late for my sweet "Ashley". She had a stroke in the house three weeks ago.If you need me to, I will donate points so you can get her the care she needs

Thanks everyone - I'm just eaten up inside over this, knowing that it could be any number of serious problems, or hopefully something simple...it's just killing me not knowing what's going on.

Thanks for the suggestions on the university vet programs, if it comes to surgery, I will definitely check that out. I've checked into other vets, and the only one that will allow payments on procedures is not taking new patients - apparently everyone else got to him before me. Sad So many vets won't allow payments anymore, they've been burned so many times by non-paying clients, I guess I can't blame them. I'm just hoping it's something that we can medicate and treat, not something requiring surgery. But her symptoms are telling me it may be a blockage of some sort, or twisted intestine. She's showing symptoms now that she didn't have before, so it would have been recent. I know diarrhea can cause a small-breed dog's intestines to twist when they cramp.

As to the question about the dog food, she was on a special diet of cooked ground beef & rice, per the vet's instructions when she was ill with diarrhea a few weeks ago, and that helped - she got better for about a week and a half, no more diarrhea, but now is vomiting. Sad

sue, my heart is breaking. I have a very special spot that I go to where I "honor" my last little dachshund that passed away. I swear to you, I talk to her every night and pray for her to be happy and I always ask her to watch down from heaven, with her angel wings spread, and protect and help any animals who are sick and to help use her "powers" to keep them well. I am going out there now to talk to her. We will say a prayer for you and your baby girl and request that my angel baby please keep your baby girl safe and well. I promise you I am doing that now. Please know that all of our hearts are breaking over this. I know it doesn't help a whole lot, but just knowing you've got people all across the nation praying for you and your baby girl might bring some comfort. sue, I am truly sorry you're going through this. If God is listening right now, I do believe he's hearing us all. And I'll have my angel baby look down from across the Rainbow Bridge and help your baby girl.

Sue- is she spayed? Those are the exact symptoms my Ethel had. In fact the vet gave us shots to take home for her vomiting- had to have hubby give them!! I can give shots to myself and humans, but too much of a softie on animals! In fact I am feeding 4 cats someone dumped or something- one is pregnant Shocked and she already had brought her little baby with her that's about 6 weeks old!!

On to dogs- Ethel would get this bout of diahrrea and voming that would last awhile, we would put her on antibiotics, give her shots and she would be ok for a while, that's when they found an infection around her uterus. The vet told me that smaller breed dogs get these around their uterus, in fact Fred(the Yorkie) ended up with the same thing, only not as bad. You and your baby are in my prayers

CAnnr- I had to put Ethel to sleep over a year ago, and then a few months back put Fred, mom's dog to sleep- cryed and sobbed for days!!..KAren

Karen - yes, she's spayed, has been for years, so an infection there isn't the case, though it could be an infection of another sort, for sure. There are SO many possibilities for these symptoms - I've about worn my keyboard out searching on her symptoms, and everything comes up the same - numerous things could be wrong. Could be a bacterial infection, could be parvo (which I'm sure it's not, or it would have killed her by now), could be a growth or tumor (she's had them in the past, according to her vet records from before I had her), etc. I've got myself pretty much worried sick about her, but I've tried to remain calm, because there's nothing I can do until I get her to the vet tomorrow. They couldn't get her in today, so we have to go tomorrow afternoon.

First thing you need to do- is quit searching the internet Laughing Seriously, I have done that with myself, and had all sorts of diseases including malaria Laughing Laughing Nothing is for certain YET- so just try to calm yourself, and get your mind on something positive- hard to do, but necessary! I have to get off in a few minutes, which is probably for the best- I have been counseling all day- and it seems like it is jumping out here too!! Take care- pm me, I'll be on later,my friend..KAren Very Happy
