lmale - go to irs.gov, click on Stimulus Payment Questions (top of the page), and then click on "where's my stimulus payment". I called it a 'rebate' in my post.

Just an update, I called the IRS after trying the "where's my stimulus payment" thingie again with no luck - they actually answered fairly quickly, and said that it's kind of touch and go right now, and that the system is not working for everyone. The person I spoke to said she tried it for her own purposes and it didn't work for her, either, but it has worked for others.

She did tell me to expect my payment by May 9. But she couldn't tell me anything about exactly when it would be received - only "by May 9".

A question, though - has anyone been told that if there are errors on their 2007 return (like in my case, where a dependent was claimed that shouldn't have been and was claimed by someone else as well - oops), that this situation might hold up their stimulus payment??

I've filed the amended return, but I'm sure they haven't gotten to the amended returns just yet - they're too busy with this whole stimulus payment thing. I'm really hoping to receive my payment next week like they said I would, but this little wrench they threw into the situation is making me nervous now.

Here's a useful little snippet of info that I bet a lot of us overlooked when using the "where's my stimulus payment" link....direct from the IRS website:

Quote:
Welcome to Where's My Stimulus Payment?

Get the amount and date of your Economic Stimulus Payment now!

We recommend checking the Payment Schedule prior to using this application since your payment information will not be available on this tool until the time that your payment is scheduled.

Also, please see the Economic Stimulus Payment Information Center for in depth information about the Stimulus Payment such as eligibility qualifications and other frequently asked questions.
Ok....now we know why SO MANY OF US can't get our information from the "where's my stimulus payment" link!! Even the lady at the IRS didn't tell me this when I called!!

Apparently, (and I just realized this after looking at the IRS site again) the info won't be available until your payment is actually scheduled to be deposited or sent out. So if you go to that link and don't get any info, it's most likely because your payment isn't scheduled to go out yet!

So I guess mine isn't coming tomorrow.....

lmale - read my post just above yours...we posted at the same time!

I think I've figured out why so many aren't able to see their info - their payment isn't scheduled to be deposited or sent out yet, therefore the info is not available. Kinda pointless, if you ask me.

Sorry I don't know how to quote..Anyway, that's real helpful isn't, if its in the bank account, we don't need to check with the IRS< GOODNESS.

lmale -

The lady I spoke to at the IRS just kept telling me it should be in my account by the 9th....so I guess you and I are probably NOT two of the 5 million going out tomorrow.

I checked mine yesterday when I started this thread and it was right, it was deposited this morning, so I think the update is correct. I would wait until your rebate is scheduled and look then, but then again it kind of defeats the purpose of the IRS link.

I just called the IRS Rebate hotline. the recording stated they " can't give me any specific information..". However..it DID say, "it would be mailed July 4th."

I would not worry. Thats just a generic statement of when the last payments will be mailed.

Roadwarrior -

I'm still getting the same results - what's really funny, though, is that when I called the IRS the other night, even the IRS employee didn't tell me that the information wouldn't be available on the "where's my stimulus payment" link until it's scheduled to be deposited - so probably not until about a day before it's deposited.

So if the IRS employees aren't even aware of this little kink in the system (or are aware but aren't telling), why even bother having the link up there?

Interesting.....the IRS must have finally wised up and listened to the millions of people calling and complaining that they can't get status on the "where's my stimulus payment" link on their site...

If you go there now and your the info on your payment is not available, you get the following message:

Quote:
We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus payment is not available.
Possible reasons include:

* Your payment may still be coming, but has not yet been scheduled. Information will be available here as payments are issued based on the last two digits of the primary SSN shown on your 2007 tax return. Specific information about your Stimulus Payment will not be available until about one week before your payment is scheduled to be issued. See the complete Payment Schedule below for more information.

* You did not file a tax return for 2007 or your return is still being processed. Additional information about filing requirements is available.

* The information entered did not match our records. Be sure to check the information you entered. You may Re-Enter your information as necessary.

Remember, to qualify for the Stimulus Payment, you must meet the eligibility requirements. Please allow 6 weeks after filing your tax return before checking on the status of your Stimulus Payment.

Payment Schedule
Please allow 2 weeks from the date shown on the schedule to receive your payment.

DIRECT DEPOSIT

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be transmitted no later than:
00 through 20 May 2
21 through 75 May 9
76 through 99 May 16

Paper checks will also go out based on Social Security number. For Social Security numbers ending in 00 through 09, the paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and will continue through May 16. A similar process will be repeated in the following weeks.
PAPER CHECK

Last two SSN digits: Payments will be mailed no later than:
00 through 09 May 16
10 through 18 May 23
19 through 25 May 30
26 through 38 June 6
39 through 51 June 13
52 through 63 June 20
64 through 75 June 27
76 through 87 July 4
88 through 99 July 11
Ok...so now I have another question. Has anyone who is due to have their payment direct deposited sometime this week (say, by Friday) seen their info using the "where's my stimulus payment" link yet? I've tried today, and nothing. Got the same message as above. So if I'm supposed to get mine by Friday (according to the schedule), where's my info?
