IRS Stimulus?

OK, I'm not sure where to post this, so if it is the wrong forum maybe a moderator can move it.

I just checked the status of my IRS stimulus refund, on the IRS website. According to the last 2 digits of my SSN, I should have had it via direct deposit last week so I was wondering what the deal was.

Well, guess what? I guess I'm too poor to qualify for the stimulus!

There's a spot on the site where you plug in your SSN, filing status, and number of exemptions and it then returns a screen advising the status of your payment. Well, I was told I didn't make enough last year to qualify. I did only work about two months at the fist of 2007.

But I'm having problems understanding why I don't need economically stimulating. I would think I desperately need it, but what do I know?

Has anyone else encountered this?

Maybe we have some IRS insiders or someone that understands it that can help explain this to me?

Get out!

Thanks, I'll do a search for it.

Paul.

OK, do you have maybe the links for them, or know where I can find them? Did a search under IRS and came up with only 2 related threads, the rest had to do with owing back taxes.

Ron -

The IRS site states the following about qualifying for the stimulus payment:

Quote:
The easiest way to find out is to use the Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator. Most people with a 2007 net income tax liability will qualify. This includes most people who get tax refunds. Net income tax liability is the amount shown on Form 1040, Line 57 plus the amount on Line 52. For 1040A filers, it is the amount on Line 35 plus the amount on Line 32. For Form 1040EZ filers, it is the amount on Line 10.

Families with children under 17 generally will qualify for an additional payment. Some people with no tax liability also will qualify. This includes Social Security and Railroad Retirement beneficiaries, recipients of certain veterans’ payments, low-income workers with earned income and/or benefits of at least $3,000 and individuals who have combined income of at least $3,000 from any combination of these sources.

Some higher-income taxpayers will not receive a stimulus payment or will receive a reduced payment.

Ron, I know it seems horribly unfair - those who are out of work, and have been for quite some time now, would need "stimulating" more than anyone, especially since there are so many out of work right now. (Trust me, I live in the state with the highest unemployment rate in the entire nation.) It seems very unfair, but it's what the IRS has been told to do by the powers that be.

No, I wasn't blaming the IRS at all. I know it would be the "powers that be" in DC that set the criteria for receiving this stimulus payment. It is just another example to me how out of touch with what's really going on in America they really are, though.

Thanks for posting the information on how you qualify for the payment. Sad thing is, I guess I was so ticked off I didn't even think to look on the IRS website. It does make sense, in an odd sort of way, after I read this how I wouldn't qualify.

But being the stubborn mule I am, I'm still don't have to like it!

LOL!
