I paid it over 2 years ago so I don't know if I would qualify for any sort of injured/innocent spouse assistance? The mortgage broker I used at the time told me that the only way to get it off my record was to pay it off, and that it would "eventually" drop off. If I'd known it would still be haunting me I would probably have asked more questions at the time, but there were also so many other things to pay off and do that I likely would have still just paid it and not bothered working a bit, which was pure laziness on my part! If ONLY I had known then what I know now!

I will give it a shot by calling the state franchise tax board, they might not have any ability to remove it now but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

Smo, I'm just curious, did you have any luck with getting this removed from your report?

well I don't know about the others yet, BUT Equifax HAS removed it. I had sent a Goodwill letter to the State of California's Franchise Tax Board, explained the situation, asked for them NOT to respond to a dispute, waited 2 weeks and then disputed it to all 3 Credit Reporting Agencies. I'm not sure yet about Transunion and Experian, but it has successfully come off of one of them. So my fingers are crossed that it will work with the other 2.

well sucess with credit reporting agency #2! The paid tax lien has been removed from my Experian report!

now Transunion has been another matter ... they gave me the error message of "For security reasons, your personal credit report is not available online." So I had to call my dispute in and am waiting for the report to come in the mail so hopefully I'll know soon!

fingers crossed for good news!

Hi SMO -

Can you share the goodwill template you used for the State FTB (CA)? I have a similar issue with state tax liens (paid) I need to get removed from my credit report.

Thanks!
RK

I learn something new every day... I thought tax liens were 10 years, but then I re-read the FCRA. It appears that unpaid tax liens don't have a limit -- they don't ever have to come off. Paid tax liens can be reported for 7 years following the date it is paid.
