When we filed BK in 05, we included our home. We were discharged in Nov 05 and moved out the house in March 06. I just received a note from the IRS stating I owe them about 17G for "cancellation of debt" from that mortgage, what the ****???? I've got to call them tomorrow to find out what is going on. Has anyone heard of this???

I googled this...
If the creditor filed a 1099-C, then it looks like you will need to remedy this by filing form 982 with the IRS. Hope this helps.
