I'm on a payment plan with the IRS, I'm not planning on missing any payments, but I was wondering what happens if you can't make a scheduled payment?

I am on a payment plan, but I have the money taken directly out of my account. I think however if you miss a payment the plan is then considered null and void. You then have to enter into another agreement with them.

Until we started having it auto deducted, we had missed a few payments, but they didn't do anything to us except add more fees and I continued to get the regular statements. Give them a call and ask them about it and if you are having problems, see if they will reduce it for you for a while. That would be the best thing to do.

Yeah, guess we were lucky. That is why it is best to call them though. If you call them, I am sure they would work with you if you need an adjustment or something.
