I run a deferred presentment company in Tennessee. The law here says that the transaction is not a loan, but a service. We cash your check minus the fee and hold it for no longer than 31 days, but usually the contract is for 14 days. You must come in before the presentment(due) date and pay off the check or we will deposit the check. You must pay it off completely and cannot "roll-over" the contract. Although you can do a new contract at that time. You also sign on the contract that you do not have more than 2 outstanding checks and not totalling $500. As for your situation, I suggest you talk with your husband, and the two of you work together(as married couples should) to get these paid off. Never keep secrets from your spouse. If you had of talked with him before the first one, he just might have advised against it and you might not be in the situation your in now! I wish the best for you! | |
