On credit? Granted, I'm out of touch with jail [which is a Good Thing, BTW.] Apparently you can now post bond with a credit / debit card. Fascinating...

I guess this way, the bondsman can run them through faster-just swipe the card and go!

Karen, the bondsmen are pissed about this, because it eats into their income.

That makes no sense, if someone says has a $25,000 bond, so they have to usually post 10% of it which is 2500K. So they charge it to their VISA, so they get out of jail and maybe make payments to the CC company and then trial is set maybe 6 months down the road, Say they are sentenced to 4 years, do you think that CC company will see a lick of that debt? Say they are sentenced to 4 years probation, now every month they have a choice pay their fines/court costs/PO fees or the CC, well they stay out of jail if they do the first choice not the second. The bail bondsman gets paid by the CC company why would they be mad, you would think it would be the CC companies they should throw a fit

Guest, the bondsmen are third party. There is a towing and recovery service near where I live that offers bond service. They loan you the money to post the bond then you have to agree to show up for the trial and stay in the area otherwise they will use in house or 3rd party bounty hunters to track you down and bring you in, revoke your bond and your back in jail.

There was a guy in New Jersey arrested for passing bad checks and when they set bail he asked if they would take a check. They said only if it was certified. He asked for a ride to the bank. He got a ride to jail insread! True story!

So wait!
Now there will be whole explosion of CA's threatening to have someone "arrested at work and thrown in jail" for not paying back the CC bill they used to actually get out of jail in the first place?
What a strange world.

This is kind of off the subject, but I thought it was funny.
I read today about a man, I think he was in PA somewhere, that had to walk to court in order to be sentenced on a DUI charge. It was a 25 mile walk and he was supposed to be there at 9 AM. Because of the heat, and the fact he was actually take by ambulance to a hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion, he didn't make it until after 3 PM.
A bench warrant had already been issued for this arrest.
Because of the circumstances, the Judge didn't sentence him that day; however, he felt he should have because the guy was facing jail time and the Judge felt bad about the walk back home the guy was facing.
A public defender volunteered to drive him home.
Not exactly on topic, but humorous.
