Default Paying a debt off and agencies trying to collect on it still

I paid a debt off in August of 2006 a settlement with MRS. They where pretty nice about the whole situation. The problem I am having now is more people are calling to collect the same debt. What do I do about it. Also my ex-wife run up doctor bills and charged them to me they also are calling and ruining my credit how do i get that off my account. I had a dispute with my insurance coverage my son took a ride in a ambulance the bill was around 100 dollars when they turned it over to the collection agency it came up to 1200.00 how could that happen.

It is important that you show some proof of the debt paid with MRS. When the collectors call you for paying on the same account, ask them to give you the debt validation. They are bound by laws to give you the latest information regarding the debt received from the original company. It will be proven out that they are collecting on that account that is already paid off. If you can gather some proof of the payment done, you can actually stop their collection activities.

I am sorry that your ex-wife charged the bills to your account. You should talk with her and make her realize that she is responsible for her debts. You are no more responsible to bear the burden of her dues.

I am also surprised how the collection agency charged $1200 on a $100 bill. There are laws in every state about the collection fees. Visit your attorney general's office and inquire about the permissible charges. The laws are the same for every collection company in your area.

I believe the ambulance service offered their services to your son in WV, not in KY. This means that they are supposed to add charges in your state, added with the collection fees. $1200 is way above normal. You should dispute the charges with the collection company and get the accurate information posted to your account. Send your dispute letter through certified mail, return receipt requested for your proof
