Hello All!
So unfortunately I had a student checking account with both Bank of America and BB&T. As a result of pure irresponsibility on my behalf the accounts were closed by both banks for overdraft amounts. I never purchased checks nor was I involved in any identity theft/fraud. However I am now on the infamous ChexSystems (I am also searching for a way to find out about EWS if that even applies to me) and it is EXTREMELY difficult in opening a second chance account. I have searched this forum pertaining to the Wells Fargo Opportunity package and so far it's not seeming like the route to travel...But I would appreciate more recent customer experiences with the Opportunity account. I am also searching for someone who has experience with the BBVA Compass Basic Checking account which is a new second chance account for people on chex systems that only requires a $25 initial deposit BUT comes with an $11.95 monthly charge as well. My only options right now are Wells Fargo and BBVA Compass, whom are both in the city of where I live, so if you could please offer any feedback/experiences!!
Thanks!

My guess (and this is only a guess) is that neither bank will open an account for you. Wells Fargo and Compass uses EWS. Bank of America and BB&T both report to EWS. Chances are they would have reported you. What is your zip code?

There are 2 good options there for you.
1. Renasant Bank- as long as you do not owe Renasant Bank money they will open an account for you https://www.renasantbank.com/ if they are not local enough for you then try a second chance account at WoodForest Bank You have to apply for the second chance account in person

2427 Gresham Road SE
Atlanta, GA 30316

If you are reported to EWS, they will report for 7 years from the date of the last activity on the account. You will be able to get an account a Renasant or Woodforest regardless of what your chexsystems and EWS report says

Those wishing to obtain consumer report information should contact their Consumer Call Center at 800-325-7775.

Apparently they will email you a form that you can mail or fax back to them.

EWS is a credit reporting agency the same as chexsystems. Because of this, you are entitled to see a copy of your report.

What information should you give them:
1. name
2. address
3. social security number
4. drivers license number
5. previous address if you have moved in the last 5 years.

When you request a report from chexsystems, ews, or telecheck, avoid giving them any information that is not absolutely necessary.

i recently opened a bbva compass account and after a week i chose to close it, they were impossible to deal with however, prior to closing the account i receive a visa debt card and checks..... it may be perfect for some not for me.

since then i have opened a Wells Fargo account, visa debit card and check and they really have gone out of there way to try to help, im very pleased with Wells Fargo and would highly recommend.

Best bank does offer second chance checking but not everyone will be able to get this account, they do seem to deny some depending on what the chexsystems report is actually showing. There is a monthly fee for the account.

Regions has never offered second chance checking, they are known to no longer run chexsystems for the most part now and only use EWS instead. Those that are not reported to EWS can generally get an account.
