can someone please help me? I cannot cash my paycheck anywhere! I have a live check because my bank account is frozen (bank levy) and if i cash my check there they will take out the money i owe for for NSF. I need my whole paycheck to give my landlord a money order for rent (i need all but $2). I have to give him a money order because i had a check bounce in the past.
The bank it is drawn on was closed because of the snow we had but i have a lot of questions.
First my paycheck says Fleet bank. they are now bank of america, will that be a problem?
I tried to cash my check at wal mart and they will not let me because i bounced a check with them before. i tried a few other places and i could not there neither. i am trying not to go to a check cashing place because they will take so much money out that i would not be able to afford rent.
will bank of america cash it if the check says fleet on it? is it right that wal mart will not cash my check? i bounced a check with them years ago but do not owe anyone anything for bounced checks. i do not even write checks anymore! my landlord check bounced only because of my landlord.

oh, i forgot to mention that with wal mart and the check cashing booth at 711 (which i was willing to pay $17 for!!!) both gave me a credigy phone number (i may be spelling that wrong) this is why i assume it is because of telecheck. i know i cannot write checks anywhere but that does not really affect me because i normally use cash or an atm card. i just never thought it would be so hard to cash a government payroll check! :( will bank of america even take it? i owe my landlord the money order early tommorow am.. i was supposed to give it tonight but the snow put it off.

thanks, guys.. it is so crazy, i though all my check problems were behind me!
my landlord will not accept my paycheck, i tried that :(
shazz- great idea but i bank at the credit union and idk if they will let me.
do you think bank of america will give me a hard time? i have no idea why the check says fleet on it, they have been bank of america for years now! i guess that's the government for you.. :( but like i said i tried to go today but they were closed due to the snow

update, after going to several locations bank of america did end up cashing it. thankfully, since the check cashing place is closed on sundays and a rip off.
than i had to go to another store for a money order and the cashier accidently ripped it in half! i nearly had a heart attack lol. the store manager said it is fine because the serial numbers are complete on it but jeez.. obviously i am saving the receipt but my landlord will kill me if he has a problem... i also do not have a phone so he will come knocking, my stress level is soaring. will a ripped money order be a problem??
also how can i clear my telecheck status? i have not written a check in forever and i do not owe anyone anything..

They should give you a phone number to Telecheck and when you call them, they will tell you why you are in their system and give you the name of the creditor that put you there. It might be a case of the creditor not clearing you once you paid off the check. I would give them a call and see what comes up in their system.

:DI'm curious. In your first posting, you stated that you have a bank levy and that your account had been frozen. Sounds like you are on Chexsystems. You will remain there for 5 whole years. You will not be able to open a checking acct anywhere. That is the first thing they do to collect what is owed them and to safeguard the entire banking industry from great people like you who happen to come across hard times.

you will be able to set up a "checking" account but it will be restricted, no checks, no overdraft protection etc. If you have Chase bank in your area you can try there first. You can also try a credit union. Good luck

no need to be curious. PNC reported me to chex systems 4 years ago when they messed up and did not block my account as promised. after charging me nearly $1,000.00 in fees they reported me. my bank is aware that i am on chexsystems and they do not care because there was no fraud reports. i am fully aware of how this works. i am the one who froze this account while i file for a hardship for this levy. there is no need to be nasty and your post is inaccurate. this board is full of advice for victims of chexsystem. you do not know me, so why do you feel the need to judge. but do not bother answering that, as honestly i do not care.

thanks for the information, i do appreciate it. but i know i am on chexsystems, it has nothing to do with my current situation, it is not true about the restricted part, i actually have found several banks to chose from who offered me full access accounts. i am with a credit union now.. i am not too thrilled with them but they are helping me out now. i have also found bigger banks, such as td bank (formerly commerce) who had no problem opening my account. it might have helped that my report was marked as paid, i have no fraud listed and this goes back awhile. i am not concerned about anything to do with my bank accounts now.. my problem was really with telecheck, not chexsystems.
