Telechek is same as Telecheck tracks fraudulent check transactions

Can you find out if you are already in Telechek - (the database banks use to keep you from being allowed to get another checking account)before you apply for new checking account?

Yea, you can go online and search for telechek or telecheck report and you can get a free one. It will take a while you to get it, so if you need to know faster, I would just go and try for an account...

Telechek works this way: When an application is received by the company, the customer's driver's license number is punched into a secure telephone line processor. If the license has bad unpaid check connected to it, the terminal will read CODE 4 which means that the customer has given a bad check to a Telechek merchant (most grocery stores, department stores, etc) and it has not been paid. This is good information to have because it probably affects the bank account you're ACHing money into. But the most powerful feature of Telechek and SCAN is the bad check (draft, ACH, etc.) negative date feature. If you have a returned ACH or bad check, you can report the NSF to Telechek . When the customer tries to present a check to the grocery store or department store, the register rings up CODE 4 and the merchant won't accept the check. This is a great collection tool. Even if the collection customer changes banks, Telechek uses the drivers' license number to track the NSF.

TeleTrack is an NSF reporting agency with a sub prime customer base. Deferred deposit customers, rent-to-own, buy here-pay here car dealers, etc. They also log inquiries from deferred deposit lenders so you can see if the customer has done business with one of your competitors in the last ninety days.

I did have some bad checks that were written in anticipation of a paycheck that got mailed to the wrong address, blah, blah, blah.... Those checks have been going through my account over and over again. I got some payday loans to try to offset these NSF amounts and just got myself totally screwed up! Telechek tracked me.
The bad checks have been paid, but it will take a couple business days to clear it up. I feel like I will never be able to get a checking account again.
How many years does it stay in the database before your name is cleared?

Buster - I actually work at a bank. Are you talking about Chexsystems or telecheck? Chexsystems is what banks use to basically blacklist people that have had account abuse or had their account charged-off. A charged-off account is one that the bank closes either because of it being overdrawn an excessive amount of time or the account holder has really abused the system and done bad things. Telecheck is the one that you get reported to if you write bad checks. If you're on Chexsystems, it stays on there for 7 years, at least. Sometimes 10 years. I'm not sure about Telecheck. I hope this helps.

It depends on how the bank reported it and what message they put in the reporting. The least amount of time I've seen is 7 years. There are lots of different codes banks put on their Chexsystems report. When I run Chexsystems on someone to open a new account, my system tells me what year it was reported and the reasons the bank gave for reporting it. If I then call Chexsystems with my banks code, I can get more info like what name it was reported under and what bank reported them. A lot of people don't realize that, even if you pay back the bank that reported you, you will still have a Chexsystems record. It will be marked as paid, but it will still be there. Lots of banks still won't open an account for you. And, most banks won't remove you from Chexsystems, even if you ask them to after paying. It's usually something you just have to wait out.

My checking account is in the red and I'm afraid to correct that because of the PDL's and their outrageous charges. As an example, I took out a PDL on December 4th for $300, from an online company called USFastcash. I got an email today and they told me IF I pay them $510 by tomorrow, December 21st, they will consider it paid in full. I have 5 more of these stupid PDL's. The bank was very unsympathetic, and I don't blame them because my account looks terrible. I appreciate your information, but I think I'm sunk! Thanks.

You need to hurry up and open an account at a different bank completely. Do it BEFORE your current account gets charged off. Find out how long you have until it gets charged off, too. Once it gets charged-off, you're screwed to open another account anywhere. But, if you get a new account at a different bank before then, some banks don't check on Chexsystems again until you open another account. I hope this helps.

Are you saying that some banks do frequently run a Chexsystems report even if the account has been open, or just when you open a new account?

Some do, and some don't. The bank I'm at right now, initials of WM, are awesome! They only check your Chexsystems record when you open a new account. Or if you open an additional account within the first 180 days. THe bank I used to work at, initials of WF, sucks. THey randomly check for any Chexsystems record through their backoffice. If they come up with one, they send a letter to the customer telling them that their account will be closed within x-days, and then close the account and mail a cashiers check to the customer. Credit Unions do a credit check to see which account you qualify for. Becuase of my bad credit, even though I've been in banking for 6 years, and I have a math minor from college, I couldn't even get a job at a credit union. But, to answer the original question, it all depends on your bank. You should ask them. Also, you don't have to have a job to open a new account. Just 2 pieces of ID and an opening deposit. So, don't close the old account until the new one opened. THat way you can use your old debit card as your 2nd piece of ID to open the new account.

Buster these other payday loans you have are they on-line also? If so see by calling your regulator in your state to see if they are licensed to do business in your state. If not show your bank where these payday loans are working without a license.

Chexsystems reports stay on for 5 years . . . . . Unlike telecheck, which is removed once the item is paid, chexsystems reports can only be removed by the reporting bank. You can dispute items on your report, just like with credit reports.

Banks can put filteres in their software to only show reports for the last say 3 years. But the longest a report can legally stay on chexsystems is 5 years . . . . . And you can be put on there for anything your bank feels like doing. Lets say you have an nsf, you pay it the next day, the bank can still report you! They just have to report it paid. Most banks won't do that but some have!

Hey, again. Goudah is right...it's 5 years on Chexsystems. My brain gets too full sometimes...I was thinking of bankruptcy filings. That's another subject. Anyway...Goudah said in another posting about how nobody should do that opportunity checking at WF. That is SO TRUE! Yeah..you get a checking account. But you only get an ATM card, no debit card. You can't get cash back from your deposit. And they put a hold on every deposit you make. They also have a 4pm cut-off time. THat means that if you get stuck in traffic and make your deposit after 4pm at the branch, it's considered the next business day. So, if they put a 2 day hold on the check you just deposited on a Friday afternoon at 4:30pm, that check isn't available to spend until Wednesday. Pretty bad. THe people that work there are really nice and they know banking...but the place they work at has their priorities all messed up. I like where I am now much better.

You're right . . . For some reason WF has the nicest bankers there . . . When my account number was stolen they really helped me out . . . Unfortunatly, they said they couldn't just close the account because there were pending transactions, so the person that stole my account number kept using and using . . . They credited all the NSF fees with no problems, but then the loss prevention people noticed all the credits, thought I was in with a banker to scam them out of money, and froze my 4 other accounts I had with them with no warning. I went to use my card and it didn't work. I was one of the lucky ones, since I'd been in so much trying to clean up the ID theft, they knew me there and knew my money in my good accounts was clean. So they went offline and let me withdraw my money. If they hadn't known me it would've been weeks before I'd been able to access my money.

There are much safer options then going the second chance checking route at some of the big banks. As I've mentioned in another post, if you want a list of banks that you can still get an account at if your on chexsystems, please PM me with your state and I will send you a list. Most of these banks will pull credit reports or verify through telecheck, so they won't even know you've been blacklisted from another bank.
